It appears WWE is trying something new with Rick Boogs and Shinsuke Nakamura. No longer the King of WWE, the Intercontinental Champion is down to matches that feature him fighting for the championship with his trusted guitar-playing sidekick. Only, Boogs isn't just there for moral support.

On the first episode of SmackDown following the WWE Draft selections taking effect, the company put Nakamura and Boogs back on television and continued their feud with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss. During the match something was different. On more than one occasion, Boogs used his guitar to will on the IC Champ. In one instance, it was during a flurry of offense from Nakamura and the other it was during a moment where Nakamura seemed down and out. In both cases, the guitar riffs Boogs was playing seemed to give Nakamura extra energy.

WWE announcers even teased the idea that Boogs was trying to will on The King of Strong Style by shredding on his guitar and many took to social media following the segment suggesting it felt a like a WWE gimmick from more than 20 years ago.

The Undertaker used to get power from his urn that Paul Bearer would carry around with him everywhere. It seems WWE is going back to that well and playing off of a prop and hoping WWE fans will fall in love with the idea that Boogs' playing will push Nakamura onto great things. In this case, it didn't work. Nakamura lost his match to Happy Corbin after getting stuck in the End of Days finisher.

Reactions Were Mixed

After the segment, there was chatter on social media about this creative plan. Some fans loved the idea that Boogs playing guitar was feeding Nakamura. Others thought it was incredibly corny. It will be interesting to see how far WWE runs with this, if, in fact, they are going there.

If Boogs playing guitar starts to bring Namakura back from near death, it will be clear what WWE is doing here.
