WWE 2K Battlegrounds is available for free right now providing you have a PlayStation and an active PS Plus account.

It's been a while since WWE 2K release a title in its main series. That's because WWE 2K20 wasn't exactly well-received by players. The game went down so poorly with the wrestling video game community that 2K decided to take a year off. Well, not exactly. While it didn't release a regular wrestling game last year, it did release WWE 2K Battlegrounds.

Battlegrounds is an arcade-style take on the wrestling genre and was seemingly created to fill the void left by the canceled WWE 2K21. Battlegrounds wasn't well-received either, but not for the same reasons as 2K20. Simply because far fewer people played it. Either people weren't all that interested in a game taking that big a step away from what they're used to, or they have lost faith in anything wrestling 2K has to offer.

If you were on the fence about Battlegrounds, or enough time has passed that you now want to give it a chance, today is your lucky day. Providing you have a PS Plus subscription that is. The newest game from WWE 2K is available for free right now to PS Plus subscribers, making the cut for its slate of July games.

For the uninitiated, PS Plus is a subscription service available to PS4 and PS5 owners that allows you to play online. However, it also offers up free games each month. Not just to play for the next 30 days, but to download and keep for as long as you have an active subscription. Along with Battlegrounds, you can also download Black Ops 4, and A Plague Tale: Innocence if you have a PS5.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is available through PS Plus free of charge right now and will be there until August 2, 2021. The following day it will return to full price and be replaced by August's PS Plus offerings. If you still don't want to try it out, even though it's free, then WWE 2K22 will be here by the end of the year. Or wait until next year when AEW's first full video game will be on the market.
