Why Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Isn't Available on Steam

The latest Borderlands release, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, isn't available on Steam currently, with the game being a timed Epic Games Store exclusive.

The latest installment in 2K and Gearbox's Borderlands series, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, has just released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, but it's currently unavailable on Steam. Previous Borderlands games have launched on Steam, but like Borderlands 3 before it, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands won't be one of them. While it has been confirmed that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will release on Steam eventually, the exact date of when it will be available on the store hasn't been confirmed by developer Gearbox or publisher 2K.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is Borderlands with a Dungeons & Dragons-style bent, with the titular Tina - initially introduced in 2012's Borderlands 2 - serving as the game's very own Dungeon Master. Building off the Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep DLC from that same sequel, the new spinoff boasts more customizable options than previous Borderlands games, furthering the D&D role-playing aspects of its fantasy premise. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has received solid reviews during its launch week, with praise being directed at its innovative looter-shooter elements, sharp script, and colorful presentation.

Unfortunately - for those PC players who don't wish to install a separate launcher to Steam - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' PC release is a timed Epic Games Store exclusive, meaning it's currently only available on that platform. The EGS has risen as a competitor to Steam in recent years, with exclusive launches an effective strategy of encouraging more players to utilize the storefront. 2K's official Play Wonderlands website does confirm that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will be coming to "other PC digital storefronts later in 2022", but no exact date has been given as of yet. This means that players on PC will have to sign up for an Epic Games Store account if they want to play Tiny Tina's Wonderlands during its launch period, which could go on for a number of months.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Is A Timed Epic Games Store Exclusive

Although Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is an Epic Games Store exclusive currently, those willing to wait to play the game should be able to download it on Steam later in 2022. The Steam page for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands lists its release date as "Coming Soon", so hopefully the wait won't be too long. Neither 2K nor Epic has clarified what the launch period of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands classes as, and the lack of a confirmed release date for Steam - plus the "later in 2022" wording from the Play Wonderlands website - could mean that it's months away.

Borderlands 3 was also an Epic Games exclusive when it launched in September 2019, and didn't come to Steam until March 2020, meaning PC players could be looking at a similar wait for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands to come to the platform. In the meantime, PC players who don't wish to wait can of course choose to download Tiny Tina's Wonderlands from the Epic Games Store. Either that or if they own a PlayStation or Xbox and are happy to play it on a console instead, purchase the game physically or through either of Sony or Microsoft's digital storefronts.
