Vince McMahon Comments On Stephanie's Departure From WWE

Following news that Stephanie McMahon has stepped down as Co-CEO of WWE, and that Nick Khan would be the sole CEO moving forward with Vince McMahon unanimously voted in as Executive Chairman, Vince posted comments on Stephanie's departure. The statement was shared on WWE's corporate website, not on WWE.com or on social media Tuesday evening.

The article read that Stephanie McMahon has resigned from her roles as Chairwoman and Co-CEO and Vince elaborated that she did so for personal reasons. Vince wrote in a letter meant mostly for shareholders, "First, I’d like to express my full support for Stephanie’s personal decision. I’ll forever be grateful that she offered to step in during my absence and I’m truly proud of the job she did co-leading WWE." He added, "Stephanie has always been the ultimate ambassador for our company, and her decades of contributions have left an immeasurable impact on our brand."

Vince then went on to talk about what was next for WWE with Nick Khan running things as CEO. He added, "Nick’s business acumen and mastery of the media industry have helped catapult our business to record revenue and profitability. Together, we look forward to working with the Board at this critical moment in time to review our strategic alternatives and maximize value for all WWE shareholders."

Why Did Stephanie Really Step Down?

Following the news, there was a ton of speculation that Stephanie stepped down for reasons not related to wanting a leave from WWE. First, following a letter the board wrote about not thinking Vince coming back was good for the company, things change in a matter of days and Stephanie might have felt WWE was no longer the right fit for her. Second, with rumors that WWE might be sold to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and part of the specifics of that deal might have been that Stephanie as a Co-CEO was a no-go.

Let's hope neither is true and that this decision was made solely for personal reasons and a step Stephanie was truly excited about taking.
