Todd Grisham Got A Little Too Excited When Kane Was Drafted To SmackDown

Kane being drafted to SmackDown was a pretty big deal back in 2009, but no one was more excited about it than Todd Grisham.
Ever since Vince McMahon acquired WCW and ECW back in 2001, WWE has had more wrestlers than it knows what to do with. That's why, less than a year after those acquisitions, WWE staged its first ever draft and roster split. There was simply too much talent under one roof for them all to be on every show, so it made perfect sense.
That is basically how WWE has been ever since. Yes, every now and again Raw and SmackDown slowly merge together again and everything becomes one, but Mr. McMahon soon realizes that one big roster is still pretty unmanageable. Nowadays, Superstars switch shows each year via a Superstar Shakeup. We personally miss the days of the WWE Draft when a randomizer would appear on screen to tell you who was moving where.

Another man who likely misses that randomizer even more than we do is Todd Grisham. Back in 2009, the former WWE announcer got a little over excited when it was revealed that Kane would be making the move from Raw to SmackDown. The Big Red Machine had defeated Brian Kendrick earlier in the evening to earn the draft pick, hence the move.
You can check out Grisham's reaction to SmackDown's acquisition above. It sounds like the commentator is trying to do his best Paul Bearer impression. Fans on Reddit have speculated that the overreaction to Kane being drafted to WWE's blue brand is a response to how his under reaction to Christian's in-ring return. If you're not familiar with that piece of history, keep an eye out for a "Remember When" article about it here on The Sportster in the near future.
When we think of it that way, we can almost hear Mr. McMahon in Grisham's headset yelling "damn it man, it's The Big Red Machine. Say it like you mean it!" WWE announcers always get a hard time for some of the things they say. What we need to remember is nine times out of ten, if they say something groan-inducing, it's probably by order of the boss. Nevertheless, we're still going to listen to the Grisham clip above ten to fifteen more times before we get on with our day.
