Every Version Of Sting, Ranked From Worst To Best
Which version of pro wrestling's Sting is your favorite? Let's follow "The Icon" from his WCW days to his time in TNA, WWE & AEW.The Icon was able to achieve more than most throughout his time in wrestling, competing for the biggest companies against the top names, and winning various titles along the way. However, no wrestler can do it all and Sting is no exception to that rule, as there are certain things that even he never achieved in wrestling.
Compete In A Royal Rumble Match
Sting Was Never Even Part Of A Royal Rumble PLE
- Sting joined WWE in 2014
- He is a WWE Hall Of Famer
Sting has competed in a lot of iconic matches throughout his career, being thrust into plenty of memorable stipulations. However, one of the most famous is the Royal Rumble, and that's something that the Icon was never part of throughout his career.
This is largely due to the fact he spent the bulk of his career outside of WWE, but bringing him into that match would've been fun at any point. He would've gained a huge reaction if he'd appeared in a Rumble, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be.
Win A WrestleMania Match
His One Appearance Was At WrestleMania 31
Opponent | Match Length | Match Type |
|---|---|---|
Triple H | 18:22 | No Disqualification Mtch |
Sting competing at WrestleMania is something that most people thought would never happen for the longest time, so the fact he at least had a match at the Grandest Stage Of Them All is something audiences were happy with. He deserved to have that experience, but unfortunately, it ended in defeat.
Sting's Definitive 10 Best TNA Matches, Ranked
Sting was a multi-time World Champion in TNA, putting on fantastic matches with some of the promotion's best wrestlers! Most people thought that Sting was guaranteed to defeat Triple H given the momentum that was behind him, but it wasn't to be. In a strange booking decision, WWE had the Game go over meaning that Sting has never won a match at 'Mania.
Wrestle Against Kenny Omega
Only Wrestled The Young Bucks Among The Elite
- Omega and Sting shared a roster in AEW
- Sting admitted Omega is the one person he wishes he'd wrestled
Kenny Omega is often considered to be one of the best wrestlers of all time, and that's why fans wanted to see him compete against Sting. Putting two memorable wrestlers against each other is the stuff that fans tune into, and this is a match that could easily have happened.
Having The Elite compete against Sting, Darby Allin, and another partner would've been a fun moment and certainly could have been a PPV main event, but instead, the two never touched in the ring.
Work For Ring Of Honor
Even When Tony Khan Owned The Company, He Wasn't Booked
- Sting was working for TNA at the time
- Tony Khan bought the company in 2022
ROH is one of the most iconic wrestling promotions to have ever existed, and while Sting was already an established name by the time the company was growing he could still have appeared. Legends often popped up in ROH for one-off moments, but that never came for him.
Even when Tony Khan purchased the company, Sting still didn't turn up. It could've been a huge shot in the arm for ROH to have Sting turn up even just for a promo, but it wasn't to be.
Appear On The Jericho Cruise
A Lot Of AEW Talent Have Worked On The Ship
- There have been five different cruises
- AEW Dynamite was once shot on the ship
Chris Jericho's annual cruises have become a popular destination for professional wrestling fans, which is why they tend to sell out. It has led to a lot of big moments happening and many of the biggest stars in wrestling have stepped on board, but not Sting.
It's surprising considering the connection Jericho has to AEW. He's brought in tons of AEW stars over the years, and the company even did an episode of AEW Dynamite at one point, but Sting has yet to appear on it.
Step Inside Blood & Guts
This Is One Of AEW's Biggest Stipulation Matches
- There have been three Blood & Guts matches
- This was created in 2021
Every company likes to create its own big stipulation match that they can promote heavily, and for AEW that has been Blood & Guts. It is Tony Khan's answer to WarGames or Hell In A Cell, and it often leads to some major bumps taking place for those inside.
Sting's 10 Best Tag Team Partners
Sting has had a ton of tag team partners over the course of his legendary career, but some of them were truly the best.Sting pushed himself to his limit during his time in AEW, which included a lot of big bumps which is why he'd have suited being in this. It's also a multi-man match which could have suited him, but he was never booked into it.
Wrestle For ECW
The Extreme Company Is One Of The Big Promotions He Didn't Work For
- ECW was run by Paul Heyman
- The company ran from 1992 - 2001
Sting wrestled all over the world for many of the biggest promotions, whether it was WWE, WCW, TNA, NJPW, or AEW, all of which helped him build such a legendary career. However, ECW was the biggest company that he never ended up appearing for.
Sting would've been a huge addition to the company, and even if it was just a one-off moment it could have been a lot of fun to see. Putting his character into a completely different environment would've been entertaining, but instead, he focused on work elsewhere.
Win A Championship In WWE
He Only Had One Opportunity To Do So Against Seth Rollins

Sting retired as a champion in professional wrestling, as he and Darby Allin were the AEW World Tag Team Champions when he wrapped up his career. He has had a career littered with titles, but he was unable to add any from his spell with WWE.
He did compete for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Night Of Champions in 2015, but that's the night he was defeated by Seth Rollins and unfortunately injured himself at the same time. That brought an abrupt end to his WWE career inside the ring, and meant he never held a title with the company.
Wrestle A Major Match Against The Undertaker
This Was The One Major Dream Match He Didn't Tick Off
- This match had been rumored for years
- The two men did wrestle once in 1990 for the NWA
One of the big things that Sting was never able to achieve was a dream match against The Undertaker, which is one of the biggest encounters that the business never provided its fans. While they technically faced each other once, that was back in 1990 at a house show when Undertaker was working under his Mean Mark character.
8 WCW Gimmicks Better Than Sting's Crow Gimmick
While Sting's iconic Crow gimmick is the most famous in WCW history, there were some other characters that were arguably better! The match people wanted was Undertaker against Sting, which could have been a WrestleMania main event. WWE had the chance to book this when he joined the company but opted not to, which was a missed opportunity.
Wrestle A Singles Match In AEW
All Of His Bouts Were Tag Or Multi-Men
AEW Career Date | Number Of Total AEW Matches | Number Of AEW PPV Bouts |
|---|---|---|
December 2, 2020 - March 3, 2024 | 28 | 11 |
One of the most surprising things that Sting has never done is compete in a AEW singles match. He spent four years with the company as he wrapped up his career, and despite putting in a lot of time and competing often enough, he never did that alone.
There were plenty of dream singles matches available for Sting in AEW, and there's no doubt he'd have been capable of pulling one off. However, his entire run was spent competing either in a tag team alongside Darby Allin or in multi-men matches with more people.
