We all know by now that imitation is supposedly the sincerest form of flattery. In wrestling, that act doesn’t always feel so flattering. Generally to help tell a story, the Superstars have on occasion disguised themselves as another star to get their hands on their opponents, usually the very Superstar that they’re imitating.

Over the years, some of the wildest moments in sports entertainment have come when some of these stars are looking in a mirror, just that it’s more of a funhouse mirror. Sometimes a pro wrestling will need to face off with an imposter-version of themself.
10 Chris Jericho - Doink
During the build to WrestleMania X7, Chris Jericho and William Regal were at one another’s throats. Jericho decided to use the restroom in Regal’s teacup and this feud was off to the races. After Regal made quick work of Crash Holly, Doink the Clown hit the ring. The fans didn’t think much of it since Doink would be part of the Gimmick Battle Royal. But when the Clown hit the Walls Of Jericho on The Commissioner, the jig was up.
9 Eric Bischoff - A Pastor
On Raw, Eric Bischoff was a lecherous GM, providing HLA to the fans. But if things weren’t going well, his heavies The Three Minute Warning would cause havoc. On SmackDown, Stephanie McMahon was a little more benevolent and was embracing the affections that Billy and Chuck were sharing towards one another.

When they held a commitment ceremony, a kindly old man was on hand to officiate the ceremony. But when he mentioned “three minutes,” he ripped off a ton of makeup to reveal that it was Bischoff, right before 3MW hit the ring.
8 The Miz - The Rock
Despite being the defending WWE Champion, on the road to WrestleMania XVVII, The Miz was shoved into the background of the brooding conflict between The Rock and John Cena.
Cena was facing off with Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay when it seemed like The Rock was heading to ring to save Cena. But it was actually The Miz in disguise, who delivered a huge beating to Cena. Years later, Miz would showcase his acting skills again when both he and Maryse dressed up as Cena and Nikki Bella during their rivalry leading up to WrestleMania 33.
7 Barry Windham - Sting
When WCW’s Halloween Havoc rolls around, some wrestlers do like to dress up for the occasion. When The Stinger was on his first world title run, he had a massive challenge waiting for him at Halloween Havoc 1990 - Sid Vicious. At the time Vicious was a member of The Four Horsemen. But when Sid attacked him before the match even started, he and fellow Horsemen, Barry Windham tried to pull a fast one when Barry headed to ring in Sting’s gear and face paint to work the match. Once the referee realized what was going on, Sid’s victory was overturned and the match was restarted.
6 Hunico - Sin Cara
One of Triple H’s first pet projects was Mexican sensation, Mistico. He was signed and rebranded as Sin Cara. During Mistico’s early run, he was serving a Wellness suspension, so another wrestler had to come in to portray his gimmick. It was his old rival Hunico that donned the faceless mask at this time. When the original Sin Cara returned, the two feuded for the mask and Hunico lost. But when the original Sin Cara was released, Hunico once again donned the outfit and played the role up until his own release.
5 Jeff Farmer - Sting
During the early days of the nWo, there was such distrust in who was going to turn on WCW that even Sting’s loyalty was questioned. Especially after it looked like The Stinger had turned heel prior to Fall Brawl 1996.

But during War Games, all was revealed when the real Sting showed up to clean house, destroying the entire nWo and the nWo Sting before storming off. Jeff Farmer had played the nWo Sting even after he was revealed to be the fake Sting, heading off to be part of nWo Japan.
4 Rick Bognar & Glenn Jacobs - Diesel & Razor
As a pair of the most famous imposters on the list, the story of how Fake Diesel and Razor Ramon came to be is pretty fascinating. To prove they had the copyright on the characters in their lawsuit against WCW, WWE’s lawyer Jerry McDevitt had suggested just casting two more wrestlers in those roles - hence Rick Bognar and Glenn Jacobs. On the other side of things, according to Nash and Hall, even though they were sitting in the room as Bognar and Jacobs were announced, they were still given raises and new contracts.
3 Paul Heyman - Paul Bearer
No one has ever accused Paul Heyman of being a decent human being, so why should he be decent regarding the dearly departed?! The Undertaker’s long time friend and manager, Paul Bearer had passed away heading into WrestleMania XXIX and the showdown between The Deadman and CM Punk. On the road to WrestleMania, Heyman and Punk had the audacity to use Paul Bearer’s demise to try and get under The Phenom’s skin, Heyman at one point even dressed up as The Mortician.
2 Luke Gallows - Kane
Luke Gallows had less than stellar career in the WWE before heading to Japan and really making a name for himself. After spending some time in developmental, he arrived on the main roster looking like a certain Big Red Machine circa 1997.

While this might have been a compelling storyline of Kane haunting Kane. But it was dropped nearly as quickly as it started and Gallows was sent back to Deep South.
1 Brian Lee - The Undertaker
Fun fact - Jerry Lawler is such an exceptional artist that he hand drew Undertaker’s iconic reaper tattoo onto Brian Lee nearly every week - thank goodness The Phenom didn’t have complete sleeves in 1994. After The Undertaker ascended to the heavens at the Royal Rumble, months later Ted Dibiase was able to bring him back. Or did he? He brought in some sort of imposter that answered to the power of greed and not the urn. But thankfully, Paul Bearer saw right through the act and was able to contact the true Deadman and return him from the grave.
