The Street Profits Should Be WWE's Next Big Tag Team

The main roster run of the Street Profits has been a mixed bag so far with both successful and disappointing results. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins were called up from NXT with a lot of hype due to their skill set. The Street Profits are a great combination of talented personalities and athletic in-ring performers.
WWE has put them in a few big spots, but the duo should be in a better overall position. The Street Profits have potential to reach the top of the mountain as the #1 tag team in the company. Ford and Dawkins deserve a chance to get slotted above the cornerstones like New Day and the Usos. WWE should be pushing the Street Profits to become THE top tag team for now and the future.
The Street Profits Found Success Quickly In NXT
WWE first saw the Street Profits breaking out as part of the NXT tag team division during the black and gold days. Both Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins showed great potential with charisma and athleticism. The Street Profits won the NXT Tag Team Championship in a four-team ladder match to reach the top of the tag team mountain there. WWE wasted little time after that win to call them up to the main roster.

Paul Heyman’s creative power on Raw led to the Street Profits making appearances on the show while still in NXT. Ford and Dawkins took part in backstage segments and were officially called up as part of the following draft after the NXT run ended. WWE showcased the Street Profits with decent television time to get them over with the bigger audience.
A fun act for such a promising tag team saw them winning over the crowd and eventually becoming Raw Tag Team Champions within a few months after defeating Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy. Unfortunately, the pandemic took away live crowds a few weeks after the big win. WWE never got the best out of a Street Profits tag title reign, and it caused the duo to lose momentum.
The Street Profits Should Be Doing More
The Raw Tag Team Championship reign of the Street Profits lasted about seven months with few noteworthy moments. Lackluster feuds with the Viking Raiders and Angel Garza & Andrade took away from the huge pop when they won the tag titles in front of a live crowd. The empty-venue events at the Performance Center and ThunderDome hurt certain talents who benefited from crowd participation, with the Street Profits at the top of the list.
WWE traded the Raw and Smackdown Tag Team Championship between the Street Profits and New Day when each were selected in the 2020 Draft. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford were forced to try to get over again on the new program when instantly holding the blue tag belts. The lack of a compelling story saw them drifting along before dropping the belts to the ho-hum team Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode.
Things have been up and down for the Street Profits since losing the Smackdown tag titles to a makeshift tag team. WWE typically enjoys placing them in comedic segments and hopes that the character skills are enough to keep them over. Unfortunately, they’ve yet to fulfill their potential due to the stop and start booking of their push.
The Street Profits Have Limitless Potential
The biggest issue with the booking of the Street Profits is that they can easily become the top overall tag team in WWE if used better. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford are above most of the other duos in WWE, but they’ve yet to stake their claim on that true top tier. The Usos and various combinations of New Day are still viewed as the top overall teams in WWE.
Late 2020 matches of the Street Profits working with the Usos on Smackdown saw them always doing the job and putting over the duo bonded with Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the Bloodline. WWE sacrificed the moments where Ford and Dawkins could have cracked the glass ceiling but stopped short. A move back to Raw in the 2021 draft sees them once again trying to rebound.
WWE has booked the Street Profits to fall just short in big matches against Randy Orton and Riddle since the move. The time to strike is now, and they can’t avoid wasting more time. Ford and Dawkins deserve another chance to truly get the ball as the top tag team on Raw. The reign getting enough time now that they’re in front of a live crowd could see the Street Profits becoming the top overall team with the right booking.
