In a match that has been a long, long time in the making, WWE seemed to confirm on Friday night that Seth Rollins will face Roman Reigns at this year's Royal Rumble. That interesting tidbit of information was revealed at the end of this week's SmackDown when WWE official Adam Pearce was forced to choose an opponent for the Head of the Table by the end of the broadcast. Rollins walked in and laughed in The Tribal Chief's face as the show went off the air.

Reigns didn't seem terribly pleased and undoubtedly, he'll have a lot more to say next week on SmackDown, with Rollins likely to address this match this Monday on Raw.

The two former Shield members will meet up at the premium live event in a few weeks after it was revealed that Reigns needed an opponent since Brock Lesnar was going to have his hands full with Bobby Lashley. Lesnar and Reigns started off the program and had their own issues, but their bout will seemingly have to wait for WrestleMania. For now, Lesnar gets Lashley and Reigns gets Rollins.

There's the small wrinkle that Rollins is a Raw Superstar and WWE may have to explain how he's eligible for a title shot, but Adam Pearce did say he was allowed to pick anyone he wanted. Perhaps WWE has no plans to really address that and the appeal of two former running mates might be enough for fans to overlook the brand split part of the equation.
