With three major titles out of four possible, Novak Djokovic once again demonstrated his absolute supremacy in this 2023 tennis season. However, there were a few moments when the young generation had the upper hand against the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion. It has now prompted Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, to issue some major statements about the young ATP players.

In his recent social media post, the legendary French tennis coach opened up about a key moment for the young generation on the men’s tour. Meanwhile, Mouratoglou also urged these young tennis talents to ‘beat’ Djokovic as he talked about its importance.

Serena Williams’ former coach on the ‘key moment’ for the young generation to beat Novak Djokovic

In his latest Instagram post, Patrick Mouratoglou asserted that facing a defeat against the Serb cannot be ‘a habit’ for young tennis players of high caliber. He stated, “It’s a key moment for the young generation on the men’s Tour. They can beat Novak. They did it in the past. But they can lose on the big stage and this cannot become a habit. If Djokovic continues to beat them like at the Nitto Finals, he will continue to win more major trophies.”

Mouratoglou also provided his full analysis in the video clip, as he talked about the importance of defeating the Serbian tennis great at this moment. He was heard saying, “I think it’s very important for the young generation to beat Novak. If they don’t, he gets the mental edge on them, and it’s going to be more and more difficult for them to beat him. This is the key moment because they are at a moment when they have the level to beat him because they are really close in terms of level. The fact that they beat him already shows it.”

The French tennis coach also named some of the top young talents on the ATP Tour who had already outclassed the ‘Djoker’ in big tournaments. Mouratoglou said, “Holger Rune beat him. Jannik Sinner beat him. Carlos Alcaraz beat him. Daniil Medvedev beat him. But Dimitrov, when he was younger, he beat Novak. But he beat him once and then he started to lose. And then at some point, he can’t beat him anymore. This ATP final was very important, he shows again that when it counts the most, with the exception of the final of Wimbledon, he is able to beat them.”

The legendary tennis coach added, “It shouldn’t be a habit because the more it becomes a habit, the more difficult it’s going for those guys to beat him on the big tournaments. And the more chances Novak will have to win three, four, five, maybe ten more Grand Slams, who knows? Everything is possible.”
