Helfrick won Most Valuable Player at the 2022 Perfect Game All-American Classic at Chase Field after he hit a 400-foot triple to the warning track in center field, threw out an attempted basestealer and hit the go-ahead two-run single in the ninth inning. He entered the year considered one of the best high school catching prospects in the draft class, but he largely underwhelmed this spring and may need to go to college. Helfrick is a good athlete with interesting tools whose game is still raw. He has a decent swing and above-average raw power, but he struggles against good velocity and doesn’t get to his power in games. He mostly beats up on bad pitching and hasn’t had much experience facing good breaking stuff. Helfrick moves well behind the plate, but he boxes balls and is a below-average receiver and blocker. His best asset behind the plate is his above-average arm strength and quick release that allows him to control the run game. Helfrick has tools to work with, but he needs a lot of refinement and would struggle if sent out to pro ball. He is committed to Arkansas and has a chance to be a top pick in three years if he polishes his game.
