Roman Reigns Title Run Is Three Times Longer Than All Of The Rock's Combined

The Rock made a shock return to WWE for one night only last month and managed to seriously shake things up when he stopped by. Hours before he taught Austin Theory a thing or two on SmackDown, The Rock revealed there was a plan in place for him to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 but things didn't pan out. He then suggested the match might take place at WrestleMania 40 instead, and considering the numbers his cousin has been stacking up lately, I'm not surprised The Rock is keen to put a stop to it.
Comparing Title Reigns
Reigns has now been Universal Champion for 1,147 days and counting, the longest time anyone has held a World Title in WWE for more than 35 years. The Rock has been WWE Champion eight times during that period, but at no point did any of his reigns with the company's top prize ever come close to what Reigns is doing right now. In fact, even if you were to combine all of The Rock's runs, his total would be less than a third of Reigns' one Universal Title run.

The longest The Rock ever held the WWE Championship was 119 days, winning it from Triple H by pinning Vince McMahon at King of the Ring 2000 and then losing it to Kurt Angle at No Mercy later that same year. The Rock has been WWE Champion for a total of 378 days. Multiply that by three and you get 1,134 days. That means Reigns' one run as Universal Champion officially surpassed three times The Rock's total about two weeks ago.
What's More Important?
This news will likely generate the age-old wrestling debate over what's more important - more title reigns or longer title reigns. It's also an indicator of how different wrestling is today than it was when The Rock was at his pique. WWE has almost come full circle when it comes to title reigns, preferring to keep belts on people for years at a time like it did during the 1980s. During the Attitude Era when The Rock was full-time, it was more about switching titles regularly to shock viewers and keep them tuning in to see what happened next.
Although this could be used as a point of contention should The Rock return for a match against Reigns at WrestleMania, I hope championships aren't involved at all. Not only does Rock vs. Reigns not need a title, but having the Undisputed Championship involved would presumably mean Cody Rhodes won't get the moment WWE will have been building to for two years by the time it arrives in Philadelphia next year.
