In the wake of recent announcement that All Elite Wrestling has inked a lucrative new TV deal that will see it's flagship show Dynamite move from TNT to TBS, fans were wondering whether or not the TNT Championship would be renamed.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (H/T Fightful) reports that the title will not be renamed when Dynamite moves to TBS. Meltzer emphasized that things could change, but for now the plan is for the title to remain as is.
New Network, Same Title
In case you missed it, AEW president Tony Khan recently revealed that, starting in 2022, Dynamite will move to TBS from its current home on TNT. It was also revealed that AEW will be getting a second televised show called AEW Rampage. The one-hour show will air at 10 pm on Friday nights starting August 13, 2021.

The TNT Championship was established as AEW's midcard title on March 30, 2020. A tournament was held to determine its inaugural holder. At 2020's Double Or Nothing on May 23, Cody Rhodes defeated Lance Archer to become the first ever TNT Champion. Cody would later lose the title to Mr. Brodie Lee before winning it back a few months later. Darby Allin won the title from Cody on at Full Gear in November 2020. The current TNT Champion is Miro, who defeated Allin for the belt on last week's edition of Dynamite.
In the wake of the death of Mr. Brodie Lee (real name Jon Huber) AEW retired the title's original design to honor the his memory.
AEW's TNT Championship: The Prestige
AEW has done a great job of booking its TNT Champions. The title is regularly defended on Dynamite and is often featured in the main event. In just over a year, it has become a much-coveted and prestigious title. A name-change at this point would damage the title's prestige, so it's good that the company has decided against renaming it.
