WWE introduced a new World Heavyweight Championship on Monday's episode of Raw and while the title itself and the way it was presented has been met with mixed reviews, reports are this is something that Triple H is firmly behind. In fact, it is being said that the idea of a new heavyweight championship was pitched and is being heavily pushed by Triple H.
Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reported that the introduction of the World Heavyweight Championship was Triple H's call, as the chief content officer and head of creative in WWE believes Raw needs its own title. Along with the report, it is believed that Roman Reigns will be headed to SmackDown and the new title will be the main focal point of Raw moving forward. One source said, it would "be a shock if Reigns does not take the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship with him to SmackDown, which then opens the playing field on Raw for a new champion."

Interestingly, this is not what the USA Network wants as their priority is to have Reigns on Raw and a title is secondary in their minds.
Even if Raw doesn't get Reigns and his championships, Triple H believes having a world title on the red brand is a big boost for the show. He wanted a main title that the stars of Raw could compete for and it was believed that while Austin Theory is eventually going to be a main event player for WWE, the United States Championship just wasn't a big enough draw for fans and the roster who wanted a top-tier title to compete for.

It is also believed that the title being crowned at Night of Champions at the Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is a way of WWE and Triple H making sure there's a newsworthy draw for that event. The fact that a first-ever champion will come out of that show -- even if the title itself has a history in WWE -- is a big deal and that is why the event was changed from being a King of the Ring show to what it has become now.
