Michelangelo's final stand against the Foot Clan has arrived, as the Last Ronin's epic revenge for his fallen brothers is finally told. In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #5 by IDW Publishing, the Last Ronin takes on Oroku Hiroto as the new Shredder and the final Turtle engage in a bloody battle that's more than a decade-and-a-half in the making for Michelangelo. It turns out to be a heartbreaking affair that ends with multiple deaths and a new direction forged for those who survive.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is a five-issue miniseries that takes readers to a dystopian future where Michelangelo is the sole survivor among the original Turtles. After being suicidal and wanting to end his own life in a world without his family, Michelangelo became the Last Ronin to get revenge on those who took them away - namely, Oroku Hiroto, the son of Karai, the former leader of the Foot Clan. After working alongside Casey Jones Jr. and April O'Neil, Michelangelo's final stand begins.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #5 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Ben Bishop, Peter Laird, Esau Escorza, Isaac Ecorza, and Luis Antonio Delgado, tensions rise as Oroku Hiroto suits up in his own Shredder armor as he continues his quest to kill the Last Ronin. After taking down Hiroto's army and a particularly large soldier, Michelangelo calls on the villain to face him like a man. The pair engage in a bloody battle, as Michelangelo suffers injuries against Hioroto's nanotech Shredder armor. Despite taking a beating, Michelangelo doesn't relent but is stabbed after being tricked that his opponent yielded. Finally, Michelangelo manages to kill Hiroto in an electrifying explosion, getting revenge for the death of his brothers - but it comes with the cost of his own life.

Michelangelo bleeds out with Casey Jones Jr. by his side as he leaves her Master Splinter's journal. He reveals that the most important lesson of all was to "know peace" as he succumbs to his injuries. As he dies, a touching scene shows Michelagenlo reuniting with his brothers, Master Splinter and Casey Jones, who died in the battle against the Foot Clan. Meanwhile, a look into the future shows Casey Jones Jr. continuing her training from the journal and is seen attempting an experiment to make her own version of the Turtles. It's a fitting end for all.

Michelangelo's death carries significant emotional weight, as he finally finds peace after getting revenge for the deaths of his brothers. Taking down Hiroto while passing on Master Splinter's journal to Casey Jones Jr. completes his quest while laying the foundation of future stories starring the new hero. Ultimately, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin sticks its finale's landing in what turns out to be a beautiful gut-punch of a story. Michelangelo's last stand is epic and tragic and completes the beloved Turtle's full-circle journey of redemption.
