Veteran WWE superstar Kevin Owens has revealed the time remaining on his current contract.

Last year, Dave Meltzer reported that the former Universal Champion signed a three-year deal to stay with WWE. News of Owens' extension came as rumors ramped up about him potentially leaving for the rival AEW promotion. But Owens and his close friend, another veteran star in Sami Zayn, wound up staying with WWE on new deals.

During an interview with Peter Rosenberg of Cheap Heat (h/t Fightful.com), Owens revealed that he has two years left on his WWE contract. The 38-year-old superstar, however, made it clear that he expects to sign another contract after this one:

"Now, I have two more years left on my current contract. I don't see a reason why I wouldn't sign another one when it's done because I don't feel like I'm anywhere near done, but who knows what could happen. At this stage in my career, I really want to have fun and make sure I'm still putting out memorable stuff for people watching.

I look back at the career I had and if it all ended tomorrow, it would be hard to have any kind of regret because I've done some incredible stuff and I've been very lucky to do what I've done. Every other show, every other thing I get to experience is a bonus because I'm not really sure how I can have a better career than I've had already. That's not me patting myself on the back, I'm just saying I've been very fortunate."

Owens has been a mainstay on WWE's main roster since he left NXT in 2015. Though he's mostly portrayed a heel character on the main roster, the former Universal Champion has been one of the most beloved superstars among the WWE Universe for a while.

It was recently reported that WWE's plan is for Owens to challenge Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the Jan. 28 Royal Rumble pay-per-view that will run in San Antonio, Texas. This match hasn't been confirmed, of course, but WWE still has a month to build up Owens vs. Reigns if that's indeed the plan.

Owens and Reigns also squared off for the Universal Championship at the 2021 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, which Reigns won albeit in controversial fashion. Fast forward 23 months later, and Reigns remains the holder of the title. It's also been more than three years now since he last took a pinfall defeat, but perhaps it's only a matter of time until Owens gets another shot at ending the reign.

WWE Has To Extend Kevin Owens

Owens' contract isn't expiring any time soon, but WWE would be wise to work out an extension with him sooner rather than later. Owens is capable of working anywhere on the card, be it in the main event scene, mid-card scene or tag team division. WWE shouldn't wait til the last minute to get a contract done with Owens. They would be wise to lock him up for the remainder of his prime wrestling years.
