A legendary in-ring career will come to an end this Sunday when Sting wrestles his final match at AEW Revolution. Defending the Tag Titles alongside Darby Allin, there will likely be a lot of notable legends from throughout Sting's career in attendance for the match. One person who won't be there, despite being invited, is Kevin Nash. Last week, Nash suggested his affiliation with WWE means he can't be at Sting's last match since it's happening under AEW's roof.

Kevin Nash Clarifies

Nash's comments led to some fans asking questions about how exactly the Hall of Famer is currently connected to WWE. The former World Champion cleared things up on the latest episode of Kliq This (H/T to WrestleZone for the transcription).

What I said was that I’m a WWE guy. I can’t have a picture of me in the crowd and underneath it say ‘Is All Elite’. I just can’t have that... One of my closest f**king friends is Paul Levesque [Triple H]. As much as I love Steve [Sting], and I know he’ll only have one last match, I will watch it, we will talk about it.

Nash went on to say he hasn't been to any WWE shows lately either, and aside from not wanting to make things awkward between himself and Triple H, he simply doesn't like being at events where he'll be surrounded by people anymore. In Nash's defense, he never said WWE prohibited him from going to Revolution. In his initial comments, Nash said he asked about it and the silence after he was done talking told him all he needed to know.

Why Shouldn't It Be Okay?

The feeling I had when Nash revealed he won't be at Revolution despite Sting's invite still stands. That in 2024, we're still in a place where a wrestler with a self-professed tenuous link to WWE can't briefly appear on AEW TV for fear it will upset people at another company. As Nash says, I can't imagine the invite would have required anything more than him being briefly shown on screen with a lower third displaying his name.

If anything, Nash's clarification makes things worse. Nash doesn't even have a contract with WWE, yet he still feels like making the briefest of appearances on AEW TV would be detrimental to his relationship with the company and those in it. Nevertheless, hopefully others who had an impact on Sting's career did accept the invite and will be in attendance for his final match at Revolution.
