Professional Background

Dr. James Urness is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He completed his medical degree at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with an additional focus in quality improvement and patient safety. He went onto his anesthesiology residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and afterwards furthered his training in Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Throughout his training he has continued to be involved in quality improvement projects helping to deliver high quality patient centered care both in the operating rooms and post operatively in the ICU.
