Long-time Marvel Cinematic Universe and Avengers star, Mark Ruffalo, addresses the chances of Marvel Studios making another Hulk movie.

Smart Hulk explaining time travel in Avengers Endgame

Summary

  • Mark Ruffalo is tight-lipped about the possibility of a new Hulk movie, stating he has been asked not to comment on it.
  • Ruffalo hopes that one day a new Hulk movie will be made and believes it could be really cool.
  • The uncertainty surrounding a new Hulk movie leaves Ruffalo unsure of what it could be, despite his own efforts to envision it.

There may yet be a second Hulksolo movie in the future, as Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Mark Ruffalo chimes in on the chances of it happening. While his first MCU movie was a success, Bruce Banner never got The Incredible Hulk 2, especially after Ruffalo took over for Ed Norton and became a bigger player in the franchise. To this point, Ruffalo is the only original Avengers cast member who hasn't had his own solo project but has instead gone on to appear as a supporting character in other MCU movies and TV shows.

In an interview with Comic Book, Ruffalo was directly asked whether Disney buying the remaining stakes from Comcast in Hulu could lead to a new Hulk project finally being made, as the Hulk movie rights have been in a complicated situation for years. Ruffalo had a surprising answer, as he has "been asked not to comment on it." He also shared the following:

Not that I know of. I've been asked not to comment on it, that specifically. Hopefully one day they'll work it out. I think it could be really cool and I've been putting a lot of thought into what it could be to be cool, but I don't know yet.

Multiple theories provide working explanations for what could start Marvel's version of World War Hulk in a future MCU crossover movie.

How The MCU Has Been Setting Up A Solo Hulk Movie So Far

Despite the lack of a solo Hulk project in years, the MCU has actually been seeding ideas after the events of The Incredible Hulk. Recently, the MCU has expanded the Hulk family as Bruce's cousin, Jennifer Walters, was introduced in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The Disney+ series ended with a massive surprise as Hulk showed up at a family barbecue with Skaar, his son, who hasn't appeared again since.

However, an upcoming Phase 5 movie that will definitely be Hulk-related is Captain America: Brave New World, which will feature the return of not one but three The Incredible Hulk characters. Following the tragic passing of William Hurt, Harrison Ford is stepping in as Thunderbolt Ross, who in the comics becomes the powerful Red Hulk. Captain America: Brave New World will also feature Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson reprising their The Incredible Hulk roles of Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns, a.k.a. The Leader.

It also appears that the Hulk movie rights may have gone back to Marvel Studios, as Universal's right to distribute the character's movies likely ended in June 2023. If true, it would explain why Ruffalo isn't able to comment on a potential Hulk film if Marvel Studios is secretly working on one. Hopefully, a Hulk movie announcement may be coming sooner rather than later, as it is time for the original Avenger to get his own standalone project again.
