Captain Marvel has been a hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for decades but hasn't aged a day. Here's how old Carol Danvers is in each movie.
Brie Larson's Captain Marvel has appeared in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, spanning decades of the timeline, but how old is Carol Danvers in each film? Captain Marvel was near the top of every list of characters fans wanted to see in the MCU during the early stages of the universe. It wasn't until 2014 that Marvel confirmed Captain Marvel's incoming solo film, but Brie Larson wasn't cast in the role until 2016. Kevin Feige brought her out on stage at San Diego Comic-Con that year to announce the Oscar-winner's arrival as the new face of the MCU.
Captain Marvel served as a pseudo-origin movie for Carol Danvers but ditched many of the conventional origin movie tropes. Her superpowers were already intact when Captain Marvel began as the movie introduced her as a member of the Kree military task force, Starforce. And even though Captain Marvel was released between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the story was mostly standalone thanks to its prequel setting, leading to a substantial passage of time to her next appearance, but she barely seemed to aged a day.
Carol Danvers' birthday in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has never been explicitly stated, leaving her age somewhat up in the air. The bulk of Captain Marvel is set in 1995, six years after Carol was thought to have died in 1989. By that point in Carol's life, she was rising through the ranks of the Air Force and achieved the rank of Captain. It traditionally takes Air Force Officers four years to become a Captain and it was revealed that she joined the Air Force shortly after turning 18. That would make Carol at least 22 years old when she received her powers, but she could be slightly older depending on how much time passed after becoming a Captain and the Kree encounter. At the very latest, Carol was likely born in 1967. If she was 22 when she received her powers in 1989, then Carol would be 28 years old during the bulk of Captain Marvel.
Since Captain Marvel's main story ends in 1995 with Carol leaving Earth to help the Skrulls, she was absent from the MCU for decades of adventures that followed. She returned to her home planet in the post-credits for Captain Marvel, which was set immediately after Avengers: Infinity War. Carol responded to Nick Fury's pager and met the Avengers in 2018. With 23 years passing, this would make Carol 51 years old during the beginning of Avengers: Endgame. Thanks to the film's five-year time jump, Captain Marvel would then be 56 years old in the rest of the movie.
Although it's possible Carol Danvers is a few years older than our best estimation, her late 50s biological age is no matter. The Kree DNA flowing through her veins and the power of the Space Stone dramatically slowed down Captain Marvel's physical aging. Even if her next appearance in Captain Marvel 2 is set several years in the future, Brie Larson will effortlessly maintain Carol's younger physical appearance. And unless her powers are taken away or weakened, Captain Marvel should continue to look to be in her late-20s/early-30s for the foreseeable future.
