Greatest Royal Rumble Will Be More Than A Network Special

Not only will the Greatest Royal Rumble be on the WWE Network, but in the UK, at least, it will also be available on pay-per-view.

WWE is in the business of making history, something they have been doing a lot of over the past few years. Whether it's packing more than 100,000 fans into a stadium for WrestleMania or staging a litany of firsts such as the recent women's Royal Rumble match, WWE has been doing all that they can to continue to grow.

Speaking of Royal Rumbles, on April 27, 2018,  WWE may be staging their most ambitious show to date. The company will travel to Saudi Arabia to put on an event they have dubbed the Greatest Royal Rumble at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. The show will feature a Royal Rumble match with 50 Superstars, hence the name of it, and also seven championship matches.

Just recently, it was revealed that the show will air live as a WWE Network special so fans around the world will be able to tune in and watch. However, more news that broke this week suggests that the Greatest Royal Rumble is going to be treated as a full-blown pay-per-view. Sky Sports—who airs WWE programming in the UK–announced via social media that the event will be available live on Sky Box Office, their pay-per-view channel.

This latest news is pretty surprising, although perhaps not as surprising as the fact that WWE pay-per-views still exist at all considering it's cheaper to have a WWE Network subscription. The Greatest Royal Rumble will also fall just nine days before Backlash which was supposed to be the first pay-per-view following WrestleMania. If treated as such it sort of flies in the face of WWE trying to cut down their pay-per-view schedule going into the next wrestling year.

For those of you in the US planning on watching The Greatest Royal Rumble live, whether it be on WWE Network or on pay-per-view, the time difference will have to come into account. As pointed out by Sky Sports, the event will air at 5:00 p.m. UK time on Friday, April 27, 2018. That means it will be starting at midday on the east coast in America. That's perfect for those at home, but maybe not so much for those of you who will still be at work.
