Don't expect him to sign with WWE or AEW anytime soon, but former two-time NWA world heavyweight champion and one-time TNA world heavyweight champion Nick Aldis has revealed that he is officially a free agent and his contract with NWA has now expired.
Aldis revealed this week during an interview with SportsKeeda (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News) that he is officially a free agent but is not interested in signing on with one of the two big companies as he has the desire to remain "free of a contract and a certain brand commitment." He wrestled for NWA from 2017 to 2022 and stayed loyal to that brand for years, even as it went through major ups and downs financially. They put their faith in him too as his second run as champion lasted for 1,043 days. In November, he ultimately requested his release from the company saying it was "just time to move on."
Aldis wrestled under the name Magnus in TNA/Impact Wrestling from 2008 until 2015 and it's possible he could wind up back in Impact if he's not going to be making an appearance for WWE or AEW.
He Would Make A Good Heel For Either Company
Aldis has the size and the look to be a big player in either WWE or AEW. His presentation is all about class and sophistication and that tends to be the markers for a perfect bad guy. That said, if he's not interested in locking himself into any sort of commitment to either brand, it seems more logical he tests himself in independent promotions or internationally. That he isn't interested in committing now doesn't mean he won't be in the future.
He might be using his free agency status and public comments that he's not interested in signing to start a bit of a bidding war. It stands to reason that both companies would have an interest.
