There's a reason why Bret Hart is the "best there is, best there was, and the best there ever will be" it's because the Hitman often puts on instant classics. His in-ring work is outstanding, and Hart is unquestionably one of the greatest technical wrestlers in history. Bret Hart was the face of the New Generation Era, and only Shawn Michaels, and The Undertaker rivaled him for the top spot during this era.RELATED: Bret Hart's 10 Best WWE Championship Matches, RankedEveryone knows that Bret Hart is a remarkable performer, and he became a seven-time world champion in his career. Hart joined Hulk Hogan as a five-time WWE Champion in 1997, and whilst his time in WCW wasn't as good as his stint in WWE, he managed to capture the WCW Championship twice. The Hitman often finds himself in the business of pay-per-views, so it isn't surprising that Hart has beaten some of the very best for his world championship reigns.
7 Bret Hart Vs. Goldberg - Nitro (12/20/99)
Bret Hart and Goldberg collided for the vacant WCW Championship on the December 20, 1999, edition of Nitro, after their controversial finish at Starrcade. Goldberg dominated the start of the match but the Hitman got a stranglehold on proceedings. The WCW Tag Team Champions The Outsiders interfered, and they assaulted Goldberg with a baseball bat after Goldberg and Bret were tangled in a figure-four leglock.
The Hitman viciously unloaded on Goldberg with the baseball bat to inflict more punishment. However, Roddy Piper interfered, and he got beaten up by Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. The finish was strange as Piper shielded Goldberg, and Hart became WCW Champion for the second and final time in his career.
6 Bret Hart Vs. Yokozuna - WrestleMania 10
Surprisingly, Bret Hart had not held the WWE Championship for a year after he dropped the gold to Yokozuna at WrestleMania 9. 12 months later, Hart and Yokozuna once again closed out WrestleMania for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 10. This was both Bret and Yokozuna's second match of the night, but the Excellence of Execution had more in the tank than Yokozuna.
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper was the special guest referee, and fans desperately wanted the Hitman to end Yokozuna's WWE Title reign. It was another lackluster match between the pair, but Hart captured his second WWE Championship reign. It was his longest run with the WWE Championship as he was champion for eight months.
5 Bret Hart Vs. Chris Benoit - Mayhem 1999
Technical wrestling was on the menu in the tournament final to crown a brand new WCW Champion between Bret Hart and Chris Benoit at Mayhem 1999. The stage was set between the two Canadians fighting out of the state of Alberta with the representation of Calgary, and Edmonton in the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Hart wasted no time in going for the Sharpshooter early on but Benoit countered it with a Crossface but Bret reached the ropes. Dean Malenko interfered, and he attacked Benoit but he was sent back to the locker room. There was tons of interference as The Outsiders, and Goldberg got involved in proceedings. Ultimately, the quality of the match was not hampered, and Hart applied the Sharpshooter on Benoit to kickstart his first reign as WCW Champion.
4 Bret Hart Vs. The Undertaker - SummerSlam 1997
Fans were in store for a treat when two legends in Bret Hart and The Undertaker were on a collision course for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam 1997. However, there was a caveat as Shawn Michaels was the man in the middle as the special guest referee.

This was an evenly matched bout and the pendulum swung. Both were at the top of their games, and Hart provoked Michaels on several occasions. The final instance was smart from Hart as he spat in HBK's face, who accidentally caught Undertaker with the steel chair when he swang for Bret. HBK was incensed, and he had the unenviable task of counting Undertaker's shoulders down to award Bret his then-record-tying fifth WWE Championship.
3 Bret Hart Vs. Steve Austin Vs. The Undertaker Vs. Vader - In Your House: Final Four, 1997
Shawn Michaels losing his smile blew the WWE Championship title picture heading into WrestleMania 13 wide open. At In Your House: Final Four, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, The Undertaker, and Vader clashed in a brilliant fatal-4-way elimination match that had battle royal type rules for the vacant WWE Title.
Vader bled profusely under his mask as he had a nasty-looking cut under his eye. Hart and Austin carried on their ongoing feud as did Undertaker and Vader. The action was non-stop, and it was whittled down between Hart and Undertaker. Surprisingly, Austin saved Hart from getting eliminated, and the Excellence of Execution clotheslined Undertaker over the top rope to kickstart his fourth WWE Championship run.
2 Bret Hart Vs. Ric Flair - House Show (10/12/92)
Bret Hart didn't dwell on his Intercontinental Championship title loss for long as he shifted his attentions towards Ric Flair's WWE Championship. On a house show that emanated in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Bret had the home-field advantage, and he was looking to make it count in his bid to end Flair's WWE Championship reign.
They hit a home run in a high-level title match, and what's admirable is that Bret dislocated his finger but he wasn't going to let that ruin his night. Ultimately, the changing of the guard was in sight, and Hart sealed the deal for his first WWE Championship reign with his trademark Sharpshooter.
1 Bret Hart Vs. Diesel - Survivor Series 1995
The rivalry between Bret Hart and Diesel in the New Generation Era doesn't get enough love as the pair strung together, three solid matches in a trilogy between 1994-95. However, their WWE Title match at Survivor Series 1995 was huge as Big Daddy Cool looked unbeatable in his 358-day run as WWE Champion.
This is arguably the best match in Diesel's career as he kept up with Bret in a remarkable WWE Championship match. History was made as Bret was the first person to crash and burn through the Spanish announce table. However, Bret bounced back, and he played possum but it paid off as he brought Diesel's long WWE Championship reign to a halt for his third WWE Title run.
