Dwight From The Office Wants A Match With Sting

2021 has been a pretty unique and sometimes downright weird year for professional wrestling. CM Punk is back, Vince McMahon brought a golden egg to work and claimed it was a gift from The Rock, and at one point WWE held a lumberjack match and replaced the wrestlers with zombies. To cap off what has been one of the strangest years in the business, Rainn Wilson has vowed to one day battle and beat Sting.
Bears, Beets, Battling Sting In AEW
If you're struggling to place Wilson, he is best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on The Office. Out of the blue, Wilson tweeted, “someday I will wrestle Sting. And I will win. You can bet on it.” The tweet reads more like something Dwight might say as opposed to Wilson. Also, as far as I know, Wilson has never been an outspoken fan of the wrestling business.

Despite not being tagged in the tweet, it garnered enough attention to make it onto Sting's timeline. “I may have to break out the Flying Toe Hold. You don't even want to know.” Despite Sting's reply, there has been no follow-up from Wilson. No indicator that a match might happen, and no explanation as to why he decided to tweet it out of nowhere. It's possible Wilson was watching Rampage at the time as he sent the tweet on December 25 and the pre-taped show aired on Christmas Day.
Sting vs. Dwight
Since Wilson didn't tag Sting, it's also not entirely clear which Sting he was referring to. While the man who has made a name for himself wrestling for the past three decades makes the most sense, perhaps Wilson was actually challenging the singer Sting to a match. That could be how he gets out of the match should AEW's Sting continue to poke him, although if the singer finds out then we could have a real-life celebrity deathmatch on our hands in 2022.
Celebrities in wrestling tend to bring mixed results. Wilson could be a Bad Bunny and blow fans away with what he's able to do despite having almost no experience in the ring. Odds are Wilson would fall into that category should this match ever happen. He's a great actor and seemingly a wrestling fan so would almost certainly put the work in to make whatever he does worth watching.
