Professional Background
With an undergrad degree in Education, I taught seventh and eighth grade for four years before attending University of Kansas School of Medicine followed by Wesley Family Medicine residency. I practiced full spectrum family medicine and added certifications as an FAA medical examiner and later a DOT medical examiner. I became board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in addition to Family Medicine. Eventually, hospice certification transitioned to a CAQ within Family Medicine. I have been a preceptor for UKSM-W Department of Family and Community Medicine since 1998.
Since 2014, I have narrowed my practice to long-term care, post acute care, and hospice. I am a certified medical director through the American Medical Director Association and have provided medical directorship to numerous long term care facilities and a hospice organization.
A perpetual student, I obtained my private pilot's license followed by an instrument rating. I then got a masters degree in Theology followed by a masters of Bioethics. Currently, I am working on my Doctor of Bioethics degree.
I joined the central faculty at UKSM-W in 2023 where I can continue to combine my passions for both education and the care of vulnerable frail elders.
