Bray Wyatt was reportedly among WWE's highest-paid superstars before his stunning release from the company on July 31.
As previously noted, Kevin Owens recently agreed to a new multi-year deal with WWE. Earlier this week, Dave Meltzer reported that the new contract will pay the former Universal Champion around $2-3 million annually. It is also worth noting that Owens' contract does not include a no-cut clause.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer shared some comments from a WWE source who told him that a main event/upper mid-card star like Owens "will make that level at this time." The same source also informed Meltzer that Wyatt's last WWE contract carried a four-year term that also paid him several million dollars annually:
"The 2-3 million a year range is so blinding to people, they sign, not realizing it's a 90 day contract that renews every day at WWE's sole discretion," the source told Meltzer. "It's how they 'got' Windham Rotunda. He was going to get 3 mil, 3 year term. They went to a 5 year term. He held. They inched up towards 4. He jumped at it. But it's still a 90 day contract. And with the higher number, it takes less and less to trigger the release."
Following Wyatt's unexpected release, it was reported that he was let go due to budget cuts. However, Meltzer also noted in the Observer "that there were reasons" unrelated to money behind WWE's decision to let Wyatt go.

Wyatt's final WWE match took place at WrestleMania 37, where he lost to Randy Orton via pinfall. His last televised appearance took place on Raw the following night, where Wyatt announced he was looking for a fresh start during a "Firefly Fun House segment."
AEW President and CEO Tony Khan has expressed interest in talking to Wyatt. The latter is occupied filming a movie right now, and Meltzer also noted in the Observer that Wyatt doesn't want to return to wrestling yet.
Bray Wyatt Would Be A Marquee Addition For AEW
Much to the frustration of countless wrestling fans, Wyatt was consistently a victim of strange booking in WWE. He has a unique skill set and the ability to be a long-term main event star, but WWE didn't really give him those opportunities. AEW has done an excellent job in getting the most out of former WWE talents, and they would unquestionably do the same with an ultra-talented performer like Wyatt.
