While a sequel hasn't been confirmed, Channing Tatum hopes to work with Brad Pitt on a future possible sequel in the 21 Jump Street franchise.

While a sequel hasn't been confirmed, Channing Tatum hopes to work with Brad Pitt on a future sequel in the 21 Jump Street franchise. Tatum starred alongside Jonah Hill in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's comedy series starting with the original 2012 release. The actor is set to appear in the romantic comedy The Lost City alongside Pitt in March 2022.

Adapting the 1987 police procedural drama of the same name, 21 Jump Street starred Tatum as Greg Jenko, a slow learning but good-hearted cop who is recruited to put a stop to the circulation of a new drug alongside partner Morton Schmidt (Hill). Made to pose as high-school students, the pair relive high school from an entirely new perspective, with the two directors using the comedic reboot to explore the premise with their more meta, self-aware writing, even existing in the original series' continuity thanks to a cameo appearance. While a female-centered 21 Jump Street entry is in the works, Tatum has yet to return as Jenko following 2014's 22 Jump Street, but the star has recently shared his own hopes for Jenko and Schmidt's third cinematic adventure.

Talking to VMAN (via People) about his work on the upcoming romantic comedy adventure movie The Lost City, Tatum revealed that there is one The Lost City cast member that he feels would be a perfect fit for the series. In the interview, Tatum stated that were he to ever work on a third 21 Jump Street movie with Hill, Lord, and Miller, he would have to bring Pitt in to play a role. Placing emphasis on Pitt's comedic talents in The Lost City, Tatum explained that the popular Hollywood star could provide a perfect performance for the series if he was given the right character. Check out Tatum's full response below.

"Brad [Pitt] in this movie is hilarious. If we ever do Jump Street 3, we have to — I'm telling you, he's comic gold if you put him with the right character."

Tatum has also recently discussed the canceled crossover between 21 Jump Street and Men In Black, supporting the work behind the unexpected possible entry in the series. First revealed in leaks following the 2014 Sony Pictures hacking incident, MIB 23's script was praised by Tatum as one of the best scripts he'd read, and would still like to see it be made. Despite the optimism, Tatum did acknowledge that difficulties surrounding producers for the film may hold back the production from ever going forward. Lord and Miller however have teased what would have happened in the film scripts, saying that Jenko and Schmidt would be pulled into the organization mid-case and forced to save the world from alien threats as low-level MIB agents.

With Tatum continuing to work with Lord and Miller to this day and both parties having some interest in revisiting Jenko and Schmidt, a return to the series may not be impossible. Tatum's suggestion of Pitt having a role is also a good choice, as the charismatic actor has been shown to be versatile in playing more light-hearted, comedic roles, be it Megamind, Mr & Mrs. Smith, Ocean's Eleven, as well as the upcoming The Lost City alongside his more serious characters. With Lord and Miller's previous 21 Jump Street films poking fun at the film's premise, genre, and the concept of franchise sequels, perhaps a hypothetical third film in the 21 Jump Street series could include comedic nods to Pitt's previous roles.
