After signing with AEW, Bryan Danielson made the decision to compete under his real name.

It's a slight variation from the "Daniel Bryan" ring name he used during his illustrious tenure with the WWE. Before joining Vince McMahon's promotion, Danielson also used the ring names "Dynamic Dragon" and "American Dragon."

But when he returned to the WWE in 2010, the wrestling icon was assigned the name Daniel Bryan. Needless to say, the 40-year-old did his job in giving "Daniel Bryan" a special name and meaning. He was one of the top WWE main event stars during the Reality and New Eras up until his departure earlier this year.

During an interview with TV Insider, Danielson said that he laughs whenever fans call him "Daniel Bryan." The former WWE Champion also revealed an interesting ring-name idea that he pitched to the company.

"People who were on the independents knew me as Bryan Danielson," he said. "It was better than some of the other names I pitched, like Buddy Peacock. Jim Ross may have known me a little bit as Bryan Danielson, but he wasn’t intimately connected. Daniel Bryan is how I made a really big name for myself. So, I get it."

Danielson certainly has no regrets with the "Daniel Bryan" name, considering what he made out of the name.

Danielson debuted for AEW at the Sept. 5 All Out pay-per-view, saving Jurassic Express and Christian Cage from an attack by The Elite's members. He wrestled his first match for the company on the Sept. 22 Grand Slam special edition of Dynamite, fighting World Champion Kenny Omega to a draw.

Danielson's Final WWE Match

Danielson wrestled his last match for WWE on the Apr. 30 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. After unsuccessfully challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber, Fastlane and WrestleMania 37 (a triple threat match that also involved Edge), Danielson was given one last opportunity to defeat The Tribal Chief.

But Danielson fell short against Reigns in a clinical affair. And per the match stipulation, Danielson was "banished" from SmackDown. His contract expired soon after, and despite a reported push from WWE to strike a new deal, Danielson ultimately decided to begin a new chapter with the rival AEW promotion.
