TNA had a few different moments in time when it felt like they were taking the next step as a major promotion. Bound for Glory 2006 was a special PPV in company history that provided strong results the entire night. The hope for Bound for Glory was originally to make it TNA’s version of WrestleMania as the biggest event of the year.2006 was the best year of this with a tremendous night of action. The main event picture featured names like Jeff Jarrett, Sting, Christian Cage, Rhyno, Kurt Angle, and Samoa Joe involved in matches or segments. TNA’s homegrown talents delivered incredible performances for a night they built towards. Bound for Glory 2006 deserves to be viewed as the peak of TNA for the importance it had in giving the audience what they want.

TNA Had Great Wrestling At The Time

The calling card of TNA during the best times of the early years was the great wrestling. Some of the best wrestlers in the world made TNA their home when trying to showcase their talent to the industry. Bound for Glory 2006 delivered a couple of tremendous matches that showed TNA was having matches second to none in the wrestling business at the time.

The X-Division was on display with multiple matches on the card. An opening gauntlet match with Kevin Nash’s involvement featured Austin Aries scoring a huge win in exciting action over names like Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Petey Williams, Alex Shelley, and a few others. TNA witnessed a show-stealing match for the X-Division Championship with Chris Sabin defeating Low Ki to win the belt.

AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels were arguably the best workers for TNA when having another instant classic as a team against LAX in a steel cage match. Fans knew they would get their money’s worth when buying a show in 2006, but this was another level. Bound for Glory set the standard of what the audience would want from all major TNA shows, but few would live up to that hype in the years that followed.

TNA Had A Collection Of Great Storylines

TNA merged great in-ring work with great storytelling to create a perfect night of wrestling. The biggest match of the night featured Sting challenging Jeff Jarrett for the NWA Heavyweight Championship with Kurt Angle as the guest enforcer. Sting won his first world title in TNA after Jarrett made it personal by targeting his family and delivering a few vicious beat downs.

Another great storyline for the show featured the friendship of Christian Cage and Rhyno falling apart. Cage turning heel earlier that year saw his close friend Rhyno trying to convince him to do things in a more honorable manner. The heated rivalry paid off with an excellent street fight to give Christian a huge victory to continue his streak of not getting pinned or submitted in TNA.

TNA held great variety that night with LAX securing their status as a dominant heel team by winning the NWA Tag Team Championship. Samoa Joe continued his dominance in impressive fashion with a victory in a Monster’s Ball match over hardcore legends Abyss, Raven, and Spike Dudley. Almost every match had a story in play at Bound for Glory 2006 that paid off as well as one could have expected.

Bound For Glory 2006 Gave Fans Hope For The Future

The best thing for TNA after Bound for Glory 2006 was that it provided massive hope for the fan base. TNA made their audience believe that they could take the next step to compete with WWE and showed a strong effort to those watching for the first time since it was Kurt Angle’s PPV debut. The main event match as the special guest enforcer wasn’t the only segment to highlight Angle during the event.

TNA set up a tremendous angle by having Angle heat butt Samoa Joe in his TNA debut on the previous Impact episode. Joe going after Angle for revenge and starting a huge brawl created interest in the dream match. Sting winning the NWA Heavyweight Championship for the first time provided another reason to show excitement in the product since a legendary name was having his comeback story.
