Backstage Note On FTR's Contract Status With AEW [Report]

Amid rumors of WWE's interest in bringing back FTR, the popular wrestling tag team will remain in AEW for the foreseeable future.

As previously noted, WWE is apparently interested in bringing back FTR, who performed in Vince McMahon's promotion as "The Revival." Their individual ring names in WWE were Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, but now they work in AEW under the names Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood, respectively.

In an update, Fightful Select (h/t WrestlingInc.com), reports that Wheeler and Harwood are still signed with AEW for over another year. Even if FTR and WWE have mutual interest in reuniting, McMahon and company officials will have to wait a while before they can head to the negotiating table.

Although Wheeler and Harwood seem content in AEW, the latter recently stated that he would return to WWE under the right circumstances and pay. Back in January, it was reported that The Revival requested to be released from their contracts. WWE wouldn't go through with it until Apr. 10, 2020 — just days before the company began a long series of superstar and employee cuts.

WWE seemingly tried to convince The Revival to stay on board by giving them a pair of runs with the Raw Tag Team Championships and later a run with the SmackDown Tag Team Championships throughout 2019. At any rate, the two were keen to seek fresh starts outside of WWE, and AEW was more than happy to give them the opportunity.

AEW Should Try Hard To Keep FTR

Since opening their doors in early 2019, AEW has been successful in recruiting a plethora of former WWE stars and staff members. However, WWE finally made a big splash of their own by landing former AEW wrestler and EVP Cody Rhodes.

AEW needs to do whatever they can to keep FTR and any other notable talents that could look at going back to WWE. We saw what happened with WCW when they started losing plenty of future stars to the rival WWE promotion, after all.
