Backstage Details On What Name Bray Wyatt Will Use Next [Report]

The wrestling world continues to await the next move for former WWE superstar Bray Wyatt, who was released from his contract on July 31.

The rival AEW promotion has emerged as serious competition to Vince McMahon's company, and they've landed a plethora of former WWE superstars. The recent signings include Ruby Soho, Adam Cole, Malakai Black and two former WWE Champions in CM Punk and Bryan Danielson. Naturally, many fans have speculated on AEW possibly signing Wyatt as well, though Impact Wrestling is reportedly the likely destination.

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently stated that he and Wyatt "haven’t really talked at all", although the former is "interested" in speaking with the former Universal Champion.

Wyatt will have to choose a new ring name regardless of where he signs. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that the 34-year-old wrestler "as of last word wanted to use the Windham name going forward." Wyatt's real name is Windham Rotunda.

Meltzer also explained that if Khan were to talk to Wyatt during the latter's 90-day non-compete clause, it would be "tampering." Although Khan technically isn't supposed to have discussions to Wyatt, Meltzer noted, this "is always violated" in wrestling anyway.

In Cole's instance, he was able to arrive in AEW quickly because as opposed to being outright released, his WWE contract simply expired. Friday, Oct. 29 will mark the expiration date of Wyatt's aforementioned 90-day non-compete clause.

It was reported that attitude issues led to Wyatt's release from WWE. Apparently, budget cuts also played a factor in the company's decision to move on from the fan favorite.

Wyatt's Final WWE Appearance

Wyatt's last appearance on WWE programming took place during the post-WrestleMania 37 edition of Monday Night Raw (Apr. 12). A day after losing to Randy Orton at WrestleMania, Wyatt revealed that he was seeking a "fresh start" on Firefly Fun House.He went on hiatus for nearly four months before the company surprisingly released him.
