Last November, former AEW Champion Jon Moxley entered an alcohol treatment program that necessitated a hiatus from the world of wrestling. As a result, Mox was forced to pull out of scheduled appearances with AEW, GCW, and NJPW.

It all happened in like 15 minutes," Mox recalled during a chat with his wife Renee Paquette on the most recent episode of her The Sessions podcast. “I was in Des Moines, on a Southwest flight, they don’t serve booze on Southwest flights for some reason,” he continued. “So I knew that, so I was like ‘I’m getting loaded before I get on this plane’ … so I was loaded when I landed.”

Moxley said that, after he returned home to Renee, it dawned on him that he needed help. “I cannot go another day like this. I can’t go one more day," Mox said to his wife, who, like several of the couples' friends, had noticed his worsening condition.

According to Moxley, he called an Uber and was walking through the doors of a treatment facility an hour later. “Called an Uber, it was maybe 10-15 minutes away from the house,” he recalled. “An hour after I walked into the door, I was walking into rehab.”

Moxley returned from a triumphant battle with his personal demons on the January 19 edition of AEW Dynamite and cut a powerful promo in which he proclaimed that he's even more dangerous now that he's sober.

Soon after returning, Mox formed The Blackpool Combat Club with William Regal and Bryan Danielson. Up-and-comer Wheeler YUTA joined the trio of veterans, and the BCC is now one of the most popular stables in all of wrestling.

At AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door on June 26, Moxley will go one-on-one with the legendary Hiroshi Tanahashi. The winner will be crowned Interim AEW World Champion.
