The stipulation of a 'loser leaves town' match will see both wrestlers putting their futures on the line. Each definition of leaving town is different, since history has seen the losers switching promotions, brands within the same promotion, or just being repackaged with a new gimmick and needing the time off.

Fans will typically buy into the importance of such a match, since the stakes are even bigger than most world title matches. Daniel Bryan recently was banished from SmackDown, as part of the stipulation after losing to Roman Reigns, but Roman didn’t put his future on the line. 8 John Cena Vs. Chris Jericho (Raw)
The SummerSlam 2005 match between John Cena and Chris Jericho saw the big rematch coming one night later. Jericho requested another title shot for Cena's WWE Championship, with Eric Bischoff adding another layer to the storyline.

The 'loser leaves town' was booked to write off Jericho, with him leaving the company with his contract expiring and his desire to take a break. Jericho and Cena delivered a strong match that gave more momentum to Cena by having Jericho leave after the losing effort.
7 Kevin Sullivan Vs. Mick Foley (WCW Fall Brawl 1994)
WCW never viewed Mick Foley as a top superstar, when portraying the Cactus Jack character. Foley’s run was coming to an end in 1994 during his violent feud with Kevin Sullivan. Both men were not the typical wrestlers with their looks, but they brought a chaos to their matches that was unlike anyone else.
Fall Brawl 1994 featured a fun, short match between Foley and Sullivan, with each putting their careers on the line. Sullivan winning led to Foley being forced to leave WCW when his contract expired. The move turned out to be best for Foley who broke out a few years later, becoming a WWE icon.
6 Abdullah The Butcher Vs. Bruiser Brody (WCWA Christmas Star Wars)
The old school approach to 'loser leaves town' matches would see the territories keeping things fresh by writing off names leaving for other areas. Abdullah the Butcher and Bruiser Brody had a personal feud going for the World Class Wrestling Association when things reached a tipping point.
The 'loser leaves town' stipulation was added for the Christmas Star Wars 1986 event inside of a steel cage. Both men left it all in the ring, with a violent encounter ending with Abdullah scoring the big victory. Brodie continued wrestling around the globe after leaving WCWA.
5 Mandy Rose Vs. Sonya Deville (SummerSlam 2020)
One of the better 'loser leaves town' matches in recent memory featured Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville having their feud culminate at SummerSlam 2020. The original stipulation was a hair vs. hair match before it changed to having the loser leave WWE.
Sonya was coming off a close scare with someone invading her home and wanted to take time off for her mental health. WWE decided to switch the stipulation to write her off and it led to a superb match. Mandy had the performance of her career with the big win that removed Sonya from television for the next few months until a recent return to programming.
4 Edge Vs. Matt Hardy (Raw Homecoming)
The personal issues between Matt Hardy and Edge behind the scenes became a huge part of WWE television in 2005. WWE fired Matt when Lita cheated on him with Edge to keep things from getting messier when he revealed it all online.

However, fan support for Matt led to him coming back to make money off the angle on television. Edge and Hardy had brutal matches, culminating with a fitting ladder match at Raw’s Homecoming event on the USA Network. The great match ended with Edge winning and Matt being forced to leave Raw as part of the stipulation, and then moving to SmackDown.
3 Tommy Dreamer Vs. Raven (ECW Wrestlepalooza 1997)
ECW had a tremendous story for the violent rivalry between Raven and Tommy Dreamer which culminated at Wrestlepalooza 1997. The event featured Raven and Dreamer meeting in a 'loser leaves town' match. Raven had won all the big matches with a desperate Dreamer looking to score his win here.
The match was arguably their best, with Dreamer finally getting the win. Raven was heading to WCW and put over his biggest rival in the most helpful way possible. Jerry Lawler ended up invading afterwards to attack Dreamer and set up the next big angle for ECW.
2 Ultimate Warrior Vs. Randy Savage (WrestleMania VII)
The show-stealing match from WrestleMania VII saw two of the three biggest stars in the company putting their careers on the line. Randy Savage ended his heel run by feuding with Ultimate Warrior here in the semi-main event slot in the 'loser leaves town' match.
Warrior had arguably the best match of his career with Savage carrying him to a tremendous outing. The win for Warrior led to Savage turning face along the way when Sensational Sherri attacked him. Miss Elizabeth returned to make save for Savage, who was allowed to continue wrestling as per Warrior’s wishes as a fellow face.
1 Mr. Perfect Vs. Ric Flair (Raw)
WWE saved the end of Ric Flair’s first run for one of the first blockbuster matches on Raw, as opposed to the PPV cards. Mr. Perfect’s face turn saw him feuding with his former ally Flair, ending with both wrestlers agreeing to put their WWE careers on the line in a 'loser leaves town' match.
The two legends had reputations for being elite in-ring workers and it showed here. Perfect won a tremendous match that caused Flair to leave WWE and head back to WCW for the rest of his prime. The only negative was that injuries prevented Perfect from moving further up the card with such a statement win.
