The tag team run of the Nasty Boys was ahead of its time as a duo that primarily had hardcore matches. Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags were not the typical wrestlers as they lacked the usual physiques wrestlers had in the late ‘80s and early ’90s. WWE and WCW each had the Nasty Boys on the roster for successful runs.RELATED: 8 Things Fans Forget About The Nasty Boys' CareersThe reputation of Knobbs and Sags became controversial since many talents didn’t like working with them. A combination of the violent in-ring style and obnoxious personalities led to their peers having a polarizing reaction to them. The tag team often found more excitement behind the scenes than in the ring. Each of the following stories provides a backstage glimpse into the careers of the Nasty Boys.

The ribs of the Nasty Boys became part of their identities in the locker room, with them looking to play jokes at the expense of other wrestlers. Eddie Guerrero revealed that he made the cardinal sin of falling asleep within range of Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags during an NJPW tour.

The show featured Guerrero performing without any eyebrows after the Nasty Boys shaved it off while he was sleeping. Part of Eddie’s hair was cut as well to have a look unlike any other point in his career. Other wrestlers like Ric Flair revealed that they attempted the same prank on him when sleeping during their transit.

7 Buried Jay Lethal In TNA

Jay Lethal Black Machismo

TNA hiring the Nasty Boys felt like a ridiculous move, but they were close friends of Hulk Hogan who gained power. Hogan brought in quite a few of his buddies to get pushes in TNA like when he joined WCW in the mid-90s.

Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags instantly got heat in the locker room when burying Jay Lethal for his Black Machismo gimmick. The insulting comments making fun of a TNA homegrown star wasn’t the way to get welcomed into a new company.

6 Punched Matt Damon Before He Was Famous

Matt Damon

One of the strangest tales from the Nasty Boys saw them having a run-in with Matt Damon of all people before his career took off. Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs were known for going to the bars after shows where they apparently ran into Damon.

Harlem Heat member Stevie Ray shared the story of Knobbs spotting Damon in a smaller film he watched him in. Damon was a good sport when approached by the Nasty Boys who wanted to show him the wrestler life, including a punch to the body. Things didn’t get hostile, despite Knobbs and Sags crossing the line.

5 New Jack Says He Punched Out Brian Knobbs At Indie Show

New Jack

The late New Jack had quite a few noteworthy backstage stories during his career. New Jack was considered to be fearless by the rest of the locker room and showed it when confronting Brian Knobbs at an independent wrestling show.

The story from New Jack stated that Knobbs made a racist joke towards him, and he reacted in a physical nature. New Jack claimed he took a swing at Knobbs and knocked him to the ground with one punch before it was broken up.

4 Brutal Hotel Fight With Ken Shamrock

The Nasty Boys got into one of the ugliest real fights in the wrestling world with Ken Shamrock. Wrestling was not yet the home of Shamrock as he was still a UFC fighter when having his run-in with Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags.

Shamrock claimed the Nasty Boys were being aggressive and rude towards a woman who was dating one of Shamrock’s friends. This led to a confrontation between the two sides that created bad blood. Sags and Knobbs sucker-punched Shamrock and used the numbers advantage to brutally attack him in an ugly situation.

The TNA stint of the Nasty Boys ended quickly after a short program with Team 3D. Hulk Hogan believed that Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags could draw money in a feud with the former Dudley Boyz, but the fans were growing sick of them.

Upper management followed suit when witnessing the actions of the Nasty Boys during a Spike TV event. Knobbs and Sags getting drunk and rowdy apparently upset the executives enough for Dixie Carter to step in and fire the Nasty Boys with Hogan approving since they crossed a line.

2 Jerry Sags Had Real Fight With Scott Hall During Match

The Outsiders

The start of the New World Order featured Scott Hall and Kevin Nash dominating the WCW tag division as The Outsiders. WCW placed the Nasty Boys in a short program with Nash and Hall after they were turned down from joining their close friend Hulk Hogan in the nWo.

One match went awry when Jerry Sags felt that The Outsiders were taking liberties by working stiff. Sags tried to fight Hall during the match and even knocked one of his teeth out. The aftermath saw Sags trying to sue WCW and getting released from the company to leave Brian Knobbs on his own.

1 Working Stiff Vs Drew McIntyre Cost Them WWE Return

Drew McIntyre Intercontinental Champion

The Nasty Boys shockingly received an opportunity to return to WWE in 2007 after veterans like Tatanka, Jim Duggan, and a few others had roles on the roster. WWE placed Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs in a dark match against Dave Taylor and a young Drew McIntyre to see what they could offer in the ring.

The match was viewed as a disaster due to the Nasty Boys working stiff with McIntyre and interacting with their friends sitting ringside jokingly. WWE quickly put the kibosh on the Nasty Boys' return and sent them home for good to end their final chance at a big comeback story.
