When WWE plans out future WrestleMania events, they look at two things. The first is financial situations, as cities bid on the event and make promises on what they can do and provide for WWE. The second is the size of the cities, because WrestleMania brings in fans from all over the world to take part in the biggest show of the year.

That is why WrestleMania is always in cities like New York City and Los Angeles as well as states like Texas and Florida. However, there are other cities all over the United States that have, for years, proven to be "wrestling towns" that have never seen a WrestleMania event. Here is a look at five cities that have hosted multiple WrestleManias and five that have never had even one.

10 MULTIPLE: New York City

Before WrestleMania, WWE was known as a regional promotion based in the northeast. While its headquarters are in Hartford, Connecticut, the company's home base was none other than Madison Square Garden. Of course, the first WrestleMania was in New York City.

The returned for WrestleMania 2, although that year WWE split up the event between three locations. WWE returned to New York for WrestleMania X and WrestleMania XX, giving WWE four different WrestleMania shows in NYC, the last coming 16 years ago.

9 NEVER HAVE: St. Louis

St. Louis is one of the legendary wrestling cities. Names like Harley Race, the former NWA world champion and WWE Hall of Fame star not only made his name there but continued to train new stars there after his retirement. Randy Orton is from St. Louis as his dad got his big break there too.

St. Louis is the largest metropolitan area in Missouri and has two major professional sports teams in the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. Busch Stadium holds over 45,000 people but WWE has never once brought a WrestleMania to this wrestling-loving town.

8 MULTIPLE: Chicago

The second-year that WrestleMania took place, WWE chose to have it in three different locations. One of them was Rosemont, Illinois. Interestingly, the main event in that location was a tag team match as The British Bulldogs won the WWE tag team titles.

Eleven Years later, WWE returned to Rosemont for WrestleMania 13, and then they came back one more time with WrestleMania 22. That final show had an amazing match where Edge speared Mick Foley through a flaming table. That is three WrestleManias in Chicago, but WWE has not returned in the last 14 years.

7 NEVER HAVE: Portland

NXT just went to Portland, where stars like Roddy Piper got their starts, for its TakeOver event in February 2020. The event was the first for NXT to not piggyback off a major WWE PPV event and it was an overwhelming success. Taking place at the Moda Center, the event was WWE's highest grossing event ever for the state of Oregon, beating the 2008 event No Mercy.

However, the only time WWE ever sent to the Pacific Northwest for a WrestleMania was when they held one in Seattle. Part of the problem is the size of the locations there. The Moda Center is where the Portland Trail Blazers play basketball only holds about 20,000 people.

6 MULTIPLE: New Jersey

WWE had four WrestleMania events in New York City, and they added even more in the region with their New Jersey shows. Atlantic City, New Jersey, marked the only time in history that WWE had back-t0-back WrestleManias in the same location, thanks to their partnership at the time with Donald Trump.

That was WrestleMania IV, where Randy Savage won the WWE title in a tournament and WrestleMania V, where Hulk Hogan beat Savage for the title. WWE returned to New Jersey two more times, this time at MetLife Stadium for WrestleMania 29 (Cena vs. The Rock) and WrestleMania 35 last year.

5 NEVER HAVE: Pittsburgh

The biggest star in WWE history before Hulkamania was Bruno Sammartino. The Pittsburgh native was the greatest world champion in history and holds records for length of title reigns that no one will ever break. However, while Sammartino put Pittsburgh on the wrestling map, there has never been a WrestleMania there.

As a matter of fact, there has only been one WrestleMania in Pennsylvania and that was WrestleMania XV in Philadelphia. With locations including PNC Park (37,000 capacity) and Heinz Field (64,000 capacity), it is a shock they have yet to go there.

4 MULTIPLE: Los Angeles

WWE has loved the west coast. They have been to California six times for WrestleMania shows. Their first time there was in Los Angeles for WrestleMania 2, which was the year they had three split shows. Five years later, they returned for WrestleMania VII, which was where Randy Savage and Elizabeth reunited.

Five years later, WrestleMania XII in Anaheim saw the Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart Iron Man Match and four years after that, it was back for the McMahon family four-way. Finally, they returned for WrestleMania 21, where John Cena and Batista became stars. WWE returns for its sixth L.A. show in 2021 when they bring WrestleMania to Inglewood.

3 NEVER HAVE: Memphis

If there is one location in the United States, outside of Texas, where professional wrestling is a way of life, it is Memphis, Tennessee. However, shockingly, WWE has never held a WrestleMania event in the state of Tennessee at all.

They have not held a show in Memphis, home of Jerry "The King" Lawler and Memphis Wrestling, or in Nashville, one of the entertainment capitals of the United States. There is even a stadium option there, with Nissan Stadium holding 67,000 people for Tennessee Titans' games.

2 MULTIPLE: Detroit

In 1987, WWE held its biggest WrestleMania ever in Detroit, Michigan, at the Pontiac Silverdome where over 93,000 people filed in to watch Hulk Hogan bodyslam and pin Andre the Giant. It was a massive moment at WrestleMania III, but then WWE didn't return to Detroit again for 20 years.

That came at WrestleMania 23 when WWE brought WrestleMania to Ford Field and an 80,000 person attendance mark for their second trip to Detroit. That was where John Cena beat Shawn Michaels in a world title match.

1 NEVER HAVE: Minneapolis

When WWE was building itself into a national wrestling promotion, they were mostly based out of the northeast. Meanwhile, the NWA territory that became WCW as based in the Carolinas and the AWA was based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Out of the Big 3, it was the AWA that fell and shut down.

That took away wrestling from Minneapolis and the Twin Cities, a location that supported the industry for decades. It is surprising that WWE never, even in its early days, took WrestleMania to the Twin Cities. U.S. Bank Stadium has brought in 72,000 people for a college basketball game. Surely, they could pack out WrestleMania.
