WWE was always building new top names in the Ruthless Aggression Era when some of the Attitude Era starts phased out. The 2000s led to noteworthy change coming in many ways, from the WWF name ending to the brand split starting. Vince McMahon was adamant about finding new young talents who had “ruthless aggression” within them.

Certain names stood out more than others to lead WWE during that time. Every top star hopes to have enough success to be considered on any Mount Rushmore list. WWE had a deep roster of legends and top stars during this time to make it harder than most other times. The following wrestlers have the best case for the Ruthless Aggression Era Mount Rushmore.
10 Kurt Angle
WWE established Kurt Angle as a major player during the Attitude Era, but he became an even bigger star in the Ruthless Aggression Era. Angle ditched some of the goofy character traits in the new era to have more intense matches.
The comedy was still there when needed, but it became a secondary part of his act. Angle had outstanding matches with Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Edge and plenty of other top names to prove why he was considered the best in the world.
9 Edge
Another wrestler to take a noteworthy jump forward in the Ruthless Aggression Era was Edge. WWE split Edge and Christian up heading into the new era where they needed more singles stars. Edge was pushed from the start with a great position as one of the initial Smackdown Six.
WWE saw Edge having great matches as a face, but his character did not connect until a heel turn. Edge became the most effective heel in the business and became a fixture in the world title picture. It wasn’t until Edge showed his own “ruthless aggression” that he reached the next level.
8 Trish Stratus
The importance of Trish Stratus to the women’s division may be the most underrated story of the Ruthless Aggression Era. WWE used the Women’s Championship for eye candy matches and sex appeal during the Attitude Era years.
Even though Trish did well in that area, she wanted to prove that the women’s division could impress fans. Stratus leading the division led to other names like Molly Holly, Jazz and Victoria getting a chance. The credibility of the women’s division was on the shoulders of Trish, and she stepped up to the occasion.
7 Shawn Michaels
The return of Shawn Michaels could be argued as the best thing to happen in the Ruthless Aggression Era. Michaels spent over four years without a match before he was talked into returning after his body started to feel better.
This new version of Michaels had less backstage drama associated with him and continued to have superb matches. Michaels’ work with Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Triple H and many others showed why many consider him the greatest of all time.
6 Randy Orton
WWE knew that Randy Orton would be a big part of their future from the early years. Orton was an intentional call-up to the main roster of WWE wanting to see what they had with their top prospects. The natural ability and third-generation background of Orton made it too easy to push him.
Orton got over in Evolution and remained an upper card act for most of the Ruthless Aggression Era. WWE even trusted Orton enough to make him the youngest World Champion in company history. Orton did have his fair share of ups and downs, but he came through it a massive success story.
5 Brock Lesnar
Many fans first think of Brock Lesnar when the Ruthless Aggression Era is discussed. WWE positioned Brock as the wrestler who represented this new mindset. Lesnar was called up right at the start of the new era and thrived with a quick WWE Championship reign.

The two-year stint of Brock in WWE featured him coming off as a top star from his debut to the end. Lesnar spending less time in WWE than the other names above him ranked him lower than he would if he never left the company.
4 Batista
WWE made Batista a huge part of the Ruthless Aggression during his time in Evolution and the push afterwards. Batista started training for wrestling later than most, but he made up for lost time by reaching a top spot in faster time than all but a few others.
The storyline of Batista realizing Triple H was manipulating him and getting revenge by taking the World Championship was flawless. Batista spent the rest of the Ruthless Aggression Era in a top spot and hated the change to the PG Era during his final days as a full-time wrestler.
3 Triple H
Steve Austin retiring and The Rock going to Hollywood for an acting career showed how much things were changing for WWE in the early stages of the Ruthless Aggression Era. Triple H provided the consistency of a top tier main eventer from the previous era still in WWE.
There is a polarizing reputation for Triple H’s reign of terror in the Ruthless Aggression Era, but he certainly found strong success. Triple H had tremendous programs with Batista, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair and others to prove he was a strong part of this time.
2 The Undertaker
The Undertaker started the Ruthless Aggression Era with the American Badass character. WWE wanted to go back to the most successful version of Undertaker when embracing the dead man gimmick again in 2004 for the rest of his career.
Undertaker had a career rejuvenation with most of his greatest matches coming in this era. The undefeated WrestleMania streak didn’t feel like a big deal until the Ruthless Aggression Era when it turned into arguably the most compelling story in WWE history.
1 John Cena
WWE wanted the Ruthless Aggression Era to represent finding their future with all the top tier prospects coming in. Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton and Batista would have been a stacked list on their own, but John Cena somehow reached another level than his peers.
Fans started to love Cena during the freestyle rapper version of his career. WWE showed the strongest faith possible in Cena by making him the face of the company in 2006. Cena thrived in the role and was easily the top superstar for the rest of the era.
