10 TNA/Impact Wrestling Characters That Made No Sense

TNA/Impact Wrestling was criticized for not booking characters that connected with the audience to get over. One of the main reasons for that was the inability to give them logical angles and characters. The biggest issue for TNA was things lacking logic and feeling dumb at times. Even the best stars like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Sting found these issues coming up for them.

Certain wrestlers found more problems trying to survive with said characters not providing the depth needed to move up the card. It wasn’t a death sentence as some wrestlers were talented enough to get by. However, the following characters from TNA showed the same scenario of not making much sense in the grand scheme.
10 The Rock ‘n’ Rave Infection
The strange tag team gimmick inspired by the Rock Band video game saw Jimmy Rave, Lance Hoyt and Christy Hemme forming the Rock ‘n’ Rave Infection. All three names were talented, but they couldn’t make this act work beyond a lower card comedy bit.

The intentionally bad musician character has been done before, and it always has a shelf life. TNA couldn’t get this team in the upper echelon of the tag division with Team 3D, Beer Money, LAX and the other top squads of the time.
9 Dr. Stevie Richards
TNA signed Stevie Richards like many other free agents to leave WWE at the time. However, this move was a bit stranger since he didn’t have a similar character to WWE. TNA typically wanted to lean on the wrestlers’ former WWE acts, but this was a change of pace.
Richards debuted with the completely new persona of Dr. Stevie as Abyss and Daffney’s therapist. The segments were hit or miss, but the character itself felt like overkill. Fans weren’t buying a veteran wrestler they’ve watched for over a decade now playing a new doctor character.
8 Mahabali Shera
TNA hoped to expand more internationally when signing Mahabali Shera from India. The Ring Ka King promotion in India was a TNA project that did have a lot of viewers, but Shera was among the rare names to get signed from it.
A dancing gimmick would already be a tough task, but TNA tried to create a new social media dancing fad with him. The “Shera Shuffle” just made fans cringe when people like Dixie Carter and the wrestlers of TNA did the dance with him.
7 Stone Cold Shark Boy
The comedic parody of Steve Austin by Shark Boy was a polarizing idea at the time. Some fans enjoyed the silly funny moments that came from the concept, but there would be no argument against the lack of logic that not everyone enjoyed.
Shark Boy was already a bold gimmick playing a human from the sea. However, the Stone Cold persona had someone under a shark mask cutting promos as if he were Austin. Stone Cold Shark Boy had some fun moments, but the character didn’t last in the long run.
6 Winter
Some noteworthy instances of wrestling characters that made no sense could still provide entertainment value without the logic. Winter instantly gained more momentum in TNA after leaving WWE to end her stint there as Katie Lea Burchill.
The character saw Winter having mind control powers over Angelina Love to form a team there. Winter even won the Knockouts Championship in this time frame, but TNA couldn’t come up with a backstory or future reveal to explain it. The powers just ended at one point with Winter playing a more traditional heel.
5 Suicide
TNA should have known they would find their way into a tough spot when booking a new character that was from their video game. The first TNA game featured a story mode of a mysterious wrestler Suicide trying to win matches and overcome backstage politics.

There was nothing to his character beyond the mystery of a masked man who never spoke. TNA never gave any proper explanations to make fans care about Suicide. Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian each found more success without the gimmick than their respective times playing this character.
4 Consequences Creed
The TNA chapter of Xavier Woods’ career is usually forgotten since he barely got to showcase much there. Woods was introduced with the character of Consequences Creed as a tag team partner for R-Truth in Team Pacman.
The stint of Pacman Jones ending led to Creed keeping the same character inspired from Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise. Creed playing an exaggerated version of a movie character didn’t work out at all since fans didn’t get to see the real him until New Day in WWE.
3 Rellik
There is no having a list of TNA characters that lacked logic without giving Rellik a prime spot on it. Johnny the Bull badly wanted to reinvent his career after getting released from WWE and used his passion for horror movies to start a new act.
TNA allowed his Rellik gimmick to be used on television without trying to explain it. Rellik just had a spooky look with his mask and colorful tongue. Black Reign and Rellik flopped as a scary tag team that just made fans scratch their heads.
2 Orlando Jordan
TNA did a terrible job with the character of Orlando Jordan in the Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff regime. It is hard to take Bischoff’s complaints about wrestling seriously today since he played a role in characters like this in TNA.
Jordan started stalking Rob Terry with TNA using his bisexual orientation to make him a predatory heel. The character had no logic with Jordan doing things like rubbing lotion on his body during Terry’s matches. TNA put Orlando in a position to fail with such a ridiculous gimmick missing the mark.
1 Okato
New Japan is currently witnessing Kazuchika Okada as the face of the promotion for many years now during a legendary run. It feels like a lifetime ago that TNA completely disrespected Okada and NJPW as a whole with their atrocious booking of them.
Okada was forced to change his name to Okato and play a wrestling version of The Green Hornet sidekick. The entire act showed how badly Vince Russo booked the X-Division talents and influenced NJPW to not work with TNA for many years.
