10 Times The Wrong Survivor Series Team Won A Match

The traditional Survivor Series elimination matches are always some of the most fun, unpredictable, and exciting matches of the year. They often bring lots of feuds together at once and allow for wrestlers to compete against each other who might not normally have the opportunity.

While sometimes there are wrestlers just making up the numbers in these teams, a victory at Survivor Series is certainly important. WWE often puts a lot of effort into the team matches, so when they book the wrong team to win, it can be a very frustrating situation for fans, and it can derail storylines and momentum of certain wrestlers.
10 Team Rated-RKO vs Team D-Generation X (2006)
This match had been well built and featured top stars from all three brands at the time. However, WWE decided to have Team D-Generation X win, and they did so in decisive fashion, with a clean sweep against the heels.
This match was ridiculous, because not only did the wrong team win, but they did so in a dominant manner which made Team Rated-RKO look terrible. Edge and Randy Orton were the World Tag Team Champions at the time, and they needed this victory more than DX and their team.
9 Team Mysterio vs Team Del Rio (2010)
WWE gave Team Mysterio the victory in 2010, allowing the babyfaces to come out on top, allowing fans to have a fun moment to cheer and be happy. However, giving the heels a victory here could have been a better call.

This isn't so much for Alberto Del Rio, who was a made man at this point, but his teammates. Someone like Cody Rhodes or Drew McIntyre could have benefitted massively by winning here, had WWE given them the chance.
8 Faarooq, Vader, Razor Ramon, & Diesel vs Savio Vega, Flash Funk, Yokozuna, & Jimmy Snuka (1996)
This is a bit of a cheat entry, but the fact is that WWE had no teams win this match, which is one of the worst booking decisions the company has ever made at Survivor Series. These matches are expected to produce a surviving team, that is what fans come to see.
Therefore, WWE giving no team a victory here was a really poor choice. It didn't really matter which team got the victory here, but WWE should have had one of them walk away victorious.
7 Ken Shamrock, Ahmed Johnson, & The Legion Of Doom vs The Nation Of Domination (1997)
Anytime that WWE makes the decision to have an actual faction lose at Survivor Series it is always a head-scratching moment. That was certainly the case in 1997 when The Nation Of Domination was defeated by Ken Shamrock and his team.
It doesn't make sense that a unit who know each other well, like The Nation Of Domination, would be defeated by a random group of wrestlers being thrown together.
6 Total Divas vs True Divas (2013)
This match was being done clearly to promote Total Divas, which is fine, but that didn't necessarily help the entire roster. It felt like WWE was just hoping to promote the wrestlers that were part of the show, rather than putting a spotlight on everyone.

This storyline could have been dragged on with a victory for the True Divas, and AJ Lee's team certainly had enough talent to deserve a victory. They arguably had a greater team in-terms of in-ring skill, but they were made to lose for the sake of a reality show.
5 Team Ziggler vs Team Foley (2012)
Sometimes, star power should mean something, and in the case of this Survivor Series match, it sadly did not. Team Ziggler wasn't a great group of talents, especially in comparison to what Team Foley brought to the table.
Mick Foley had legends in Randy Orton and Kane, as well as Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, and The Miz who were all at the top of their games, and seeing a team of that caliber lose just didn't make sense.
4 WWE Legends vs Spirit Squad (2006)
Spirit Squad were rarely taken seriously, but at 2006's Survivor Series, that was taken to another level. The young group of wrestlers was soundly defeated by a group of WWE legends who were all past their prime.

It was a chance for WWE to give Spirit Squad a big victory and establish them as heels to be hated by destroying fan-favorite legends. However, WWE made the decision to not go down that route.
3 Team Raw vs Team SmackDown vs Team NXT (2019)
This was the most recent traditional elimination match and it saw WWE inject NXT into the mix, shaking things up slightly. It provided a great opportunity for WWE to push NXT, showcasing it was an exciting upcoming brand and really make stars out of rising talent.
However, WWE opted to have SmackDown get the win with Roman Reigns, someone who was already an established main event star. Giving NXT this big win could really have benefitted the show overall. Either way, NXT won the night with the most victories.
2 Team WWF vs Team Alliance (2001)
There's no doubt that WWE messed things up with the Invasion angle, which should have been the greatest storyline in wrestling history. The decision to have Team WWF pick up the victory in this main event was the wrong way to go.
Sure, the company wanted to dominate the story overall, but that didn't present the new wrestlers as top stars. Having Team Alliance get the win would have let this storyline develop a little further, which could have helped the angle succeed.
1 Team Raw vs Team SmackDown (2018)
2018 was a ridiculous year for bad booking decisions at Survivor Series. For some reason, WWE made the decision to have the Raw roster members win every single match at the show, creating a clean sweep of the main card.
This was a terrible decision as it just made the SmackDown roster look incredibly weak. The company should have given the blue brand a couple of victories, and the traditional elimination match could have been a great time to do that.
