Everyone knows the WWE is a scripted program with set boundaries and rules. There are many cases where wrestlers go beyond the "rules" and get in trouble for saying something they shouldn't have or talking about something that is completely off-limits.

It's a tough line to toe for wrestlers. Oftentimes, their words and voice are what help them become world-renowned. Their mouth is also often the thing that can land them in deep hot water. This list will examine ten times a WWE wrestler's mouth got them in trouble.

10 Jerry Lawler Insults Akira Tozawa

Jerry Lawler is oftentimes more well known for his time as an announcer than his days as a wrestler. His voice is one of the most iconic in the history of the WWE and wrestling. His time on commentary also once got him in hot water.

During a match on Raw, Lawler called a move by Akira Tozawa a “Ramen Noodle Moonsault.” Many felt the term was racist and it led to Lawler being pulled from the announcer chair on Raw.

9 The USA Network Doesn't Approve Of D-Generation X... At First

D-Generation X were no strangers to controversy in the 1990s. Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Chyna were once the biggest attraction at the WWE. The network that airs Monday Night Raw, USA Network, loved the ratings they brought in, but not their antics or language. They even threatened to pull Raw from the network if D-Generation X didn't change their tune.

During an episode of Raw, D-Generation X mocked a state of the union address "apologizing" to USA Network. They said every word that they would "never say again" mocking the fact that they got in trouble The segment was based on a real letter sent by the network and ended up being so successful with audiences that USA thanked them for the segment.

8 John Cena Calls Taiwan A Country, Insults China

John Cena is one of the most polarizing stars in the history of the WWE. He was the main attraction in the company for over a decade and has recently become a movie and television star.

The relationship between Taiwan and China is a situation much bigger than John Cena's role in the Fast and Furious, which he was promoting when his mouth got him in trouble. He called Taiwan a "country". China considers Taiwan a part of its territory and some people in China were not happy with his statement. He apologized for his remark and called it a "mistake."

7 Booker T Uses A Poor Choice Of Words To Describe Owen Hart

Booker T's mouth was one of his greatest assets as a wrestling star. It has also landed the WWE Hall of Famer in trouble a few times. While on commentary, he and JBL were complimenting Neville who JBL compared to Owen Hart.

Booker said Owen didn't "defy gravity" like Nevile. Many fans thought it was a shot at Owen or a bad joke. Either way, they weren't happy. Booker T apologized for his comments shortly after.

6 Brian Kendrick's Conspiracy Theory Beliefs Cost Him His AEW Gig

Brian Kendrick was never a main event star but did make an impact in the tag team division. There were a ton of bad decisions made by WWE creative in terms of Kendrick's usage at the company, but one of the worst decisions Kendrick ever made in his entire life was to call the Holocaust "overblown."

The statement, made somewhere from 2009 to 2011, cost Kendrick a job at AEW and he's still apologizing about it. This also ties into a long history of conspiracy theory beliefs from Kendrick as detailed by his former tag team partner and friend Paul London.

CM Punk's mouth has caused him more success and failure than any star in the history of wrestling. Although there could probably be a list of things Punk said that got him in hot water, his podcast conversation with Colt Cabana still makes waves in 2022.

In the episode, he talked about all his issues in the WWE, but the criticisms he made about a WWE doctor landed him and Colt Cabana (the podcast host) in legal trouble. It also led to their fallout and eventually the infamous Media Scrum after AEW All Out in 2022.

For many years, Chyna was either ignored by WWE entirely or belittled when she was brought up. However, one of the most insulting remarks from a WWE performer came from none other than Nikki Bella.

Love him or hate him, Hulk Hogan is one of the most important wrestlers to ever set foot in a ring. His controversies outside of wrestling have made his legacy complicated for fans of the Hulkster.

One of the biggest controversies was his usage of the n-word. He said it in regard to one of Brooke Hogan's boyfriends. It led to his suspension from the WWE Hall of Fame and his respectability took a huge hit after the audio surfaced in 2015.

Although the moment was scripted, it did not take away from the backlash he received. During a feud with Rey Mysterio, Orton got huge heat with fans when he said that Eddie Guerrero was "in hell."

It was a part of selling Mysterio as an underdog, but even he admits it was the most uncomfortable moment of his career. Jim Ross even called it a "mistake" years later on his "Grilling J.R" podcast.

Ripley has been a force in the WWE since becoming the first NXT UK Women's Champion. A Twitch video surfaced of her taking part in a segment where viewers tipped her 15 dollars to insult them in Spanish or Australian slang. In the video, she called one of the participants a homophobic slur. Ripley quickly apologized after the video went viral.
