10 Things You Didn't Know About The Villainous DC Character

Batman The Devastator is an alternate universe version of Batman who has taken the Doomsday Virus. Here are some facts about this villain.
With one of the biggest batman movies currently in production and Ben Affleck’s Batman also making a return to the big screen, it’s nothing new that there are several different versions of Batman that exist concurrently. Though he’s yet to make his on-screen debut, one of the most interesting and dynamic versions of the caped crusader is Batman the Devastator from Earth -1.
Being such a deep cut, the character won’t show up on a beginner’s guide to Batman comics, but it’s one of the most unique takes on the vigilante. Batman has never properly seen eye to eye with Superman, even when they’re on the same side, but this Batman sees the Man of Steel as the single biggest inconvenience to the world, and everything that consumes this caped crusader is built to battle Superman.
10 Doomsday Virus
Though he’s one of the characters who didn’t exactly get a fitting ending in the movie, Bruce Wayne went head to head with Doomsday in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. But what few people know is that this Batman was actually consumed by the virus. The virus was Bruce’s own modified version of the virus that he used only if he needed to, and when this world's Superman turned evil, he used the virus as a last resort. After he was consumed by the virus, Batman became a Doomsday version of himself and was named Batman The Devastator.
9 The Virus Destroyed Earth -1
The doomsday virus is the very reason why Earth -1 no longer exists, as it spread across the whole of Earth, destroying everything that it came in to contact with. There was nothing that the Devastator could do but sit back and watch the destruction. So in trying to protect the world, Batman inadvertently becomes the catalyst for the destruction of it, and it could be said that he lived long enough to see himself become the villain.
8 He Can Transform
When it comes to the modified virus that Bruce Wayne made to protect himself and the world from Superman, one of the modifications that he made was that he has the ability to transform at will. Unlike the actual Doomsday villain, who remains one form at all times, in a very Hulk-like fashion, Bruce Wayne can interchange between his doomsday form and his real-life self.
7 The Batman Who Laughs
As the Earth was being destroyed due to the virus, the Batman Who Laughs appears and gives Batman The Devastator some sound advice.
The Batman Who Laughs is the one who tells The Devastator that there is another Earth that exists, Earth Zero. He also tells the Devastator that on this Earth, Superman is still alive and civilization doesn’t know how evil the red caped crusader actually is. The Devastator has also referenced that The Batman Who Laughs is Earth -1’s Joker.
6 He Can Regenerate
Along with ballooning up and looking like a boulder, the virus comes with some nifty abilities too. The Devastator is able to regenerate, making him almost invincible in a fight, and he is also able to create and surround himself in kryptonite mist. Not only that, but he can summon spikes from his body to rise out of the ground too.
5 Equal Strength To Superman
There are very few positive things to remember Doomsday by in BvS, but if the monster had even one of the abilities that Batman The Devastator had instead of wandering around like a mindless ogre, the movie would have had a much better reception.
One of the major additions that comes with the Doomsday virus is super-strength, as the Devastator is known to have equal strength to Superman, which makes the Man of Steel rather inferior when it comes to superpowers.
4 Decreasing Logic
Batman changed Hollywood in a lot of ways, with one of them being that Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy turned the franchise into a smart, grounded, and logical series that influenced many other superhero movies. However, one of the biggest weaknesses that the Devastator has is that his smarts and logic decrease the longer the virus is triggered. The longer Bruce remains the Devastator, the more he becomes a creature who just wants to destroy everything in his wake.
3 Lobo And Other Enemies
Lobo is a genius, immortal, and is the primary enemy of the Devastator on Earth 0. Given that the Devastator is more or less immortal as he is able to regenerate, he is fairly evenly matched. But Lobo isn’t the Devastator’s only enemy, as he has also faced off with Supergirl, Guardian, and many others who have tried to take on the Devastator but have fallen short. Even Lois Lane and Clark Kent’s son, Jonathan Kent try to take him on.
2 He Kills Superman
Though he doesn’t kill Superman on Earth 0, Earth -1’s Superman is nothing more than The Devastator’s toy. In the final fight between the two evenly matched foes, Batman’s breath even becomes radioactive with Kryptonite, and Superman isn’t able to stop him by just throwing a pack of gum in his mouth. The Devastator literally murdered Superman by breathing on him, and it’s surprisingly one of the nastiest, mangled deaths ever seen in a comic book.
1 Lois Lane
When the Devastator lands on Earth 0, he quickly meets Lois Lane, and in his Bruce Wayne form, he infects her with the Doomsday virus. Being the city slicker and traveling reporter that she is, Lois unintentionally spreads the virus throughout the whole of Metropolis, leading the population of the city to transform into these creatures. The only reason why the same outcome didn’t happen to her is due to her exposure to solar radiation she had after hanging out with Clark so often.
