The couple remained together a bit too long, especially when Vickie added Jack Swagger as another client. Ziggler ended up struggling due to this as it limited his ceiling. WWE splitting them up too late already made it hard for Dolph to get a bigger main event role when pushed on his own.

9 Lita & Matt Hardy

Matt Hardy kisses Lita

Fans loved the early stages of the relationship between Matt Hardy and Lita in Team Xtreme. Lita managing the Hardy Boyz made sense they all had the same style and connected with the fans of the Attitude Era.

The problem was WWE extending the storyline portion of their real relationship on and off. Matt and Lita were on separate shows when Matt turned heel. The duo would reunite specifically for the Kane storyline, but the time apart made it hard to buy they were still together.

8 Kelly Kelly & Mike Knox

Mike Knox and Kelly Kelly

The ECW brand featured developmental stars like Mike Knox getting their first chance to thrive on a WWE television show. Kelly Kelly signed at the age of 18 and was introduced in a major storyline for the third brand.

The exhibitionist character of Kelly Kelly saw her dancing each week until her boyfriend Knox stopped her. WWE ran this storyline too long with the same thing happening for months until Kelly Kelly finally broke away from him to enter a short-lived CM Punk romance.

7 Kristal Marshall & Teddy Long

Teddy Long and Kristal Marshall

WWE spent about half a year making the relationship between Kristal Marshall and Teddy Long a big part of Smackdown. Long was the General Manager for Smackdown and his relationship started to impact his job.

There was a lack of chemistry between the two, likely due to the massive age gap. WWE booked them to have a wedding segment ending with Long having a heart attack in the ring. Marshall left the company shortly after to give us no payoff for such a long and pointless storyline.

6 Torrie Wilson & Tajiri

Torrie Wilson and Tajiri

WWE found surprising success for the relationship between Torrie Wilson and Tajiri in the Invasion storyline. Wilson was the first WCW wrestler to completely turn face and move over to the WWE side to date her new love interest by proxy.

Tajiri and Torrie had hilarious moments together as an unlikely couple of two likeable wrestlers. The angle started to grow stale after the WWE vs WCW/ECW story ended. WWE tried to extend it by turning Tajiri heel into a verbally abusive partner, but fans just wanted Wilson on her own again.

5 Sable & Marc Mero

The hiring of Sable by WWE was initially done to have her solely manage her husband Marc Mero. WWE gave Mero one of the first guaranteed contracts in company history due to the belief that he would be a future face of the company.

Unfortunately, fans only cared about Sable as Mero flopped in his push. WWE kept them together for a few years before Sable finally turned on him to get her big singles face run. Sable leaving Mero sooner could have given her a longer run in a bigger role.

4 Melina & John Morrison

Johnny Nitro and Melina

WWE kept John Morrison and Melina tied together for the first few years of their career. Morrison worked under the name Johnny Nitro from his start in the MNM tag team. Joey Mercury getting punished for failing a drug test led to Morrison and Melina moving forward on their own.

The duo became a couple as Morrison typically was the one wrestling in the Intercontinental Championship picture. Melina ended up being wasted in this role since it neglected her singles career until the two finally split. Both careers benefited since they peaked as an act despite WWE trying to keep them together.

3 Lana & Bobby Lashley

Lana, Bobby Lashley and Rusev

The idea of pairing Bobby Lashley and Lana together was to elevate Lashley into a main event spot. All three wrestlers of Lashley, Lana and Rusev all struggled in the horrendous love triangle. WWE tried to keep Lana and Lashley together for a longer run after the feud, but it was a disaster.

Lashley’s current WWE Championship spot was the status the company hoped to achieve. Unfortunately, the chemistry and booking doomed them both until they finally split up months into the relationship. MVP becoming Lashley’s new manager and moving Lana out of the picture helped get Lashley to his top spot today.

2 AJ Lee & Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee

WWE realizing that AJ Lee was a great character led to her having quite a few romantic storylines with top names. Lee turned on John Cena to help Dolph Ziggler win a big match over him and move forward in the new relationship.

The potential of AJ was limited in the role and the duo started to run its course after a few months. Lee starting to finally wrestle in the Divas Championship picture saw her other storylines taking priority and WWE eventually ended the couple.

1 Vickie Guerrero & Edge

Edge and Vickie Guerrero

Vickie Guerrero initially joined WWE to be part of the Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guerrero storyline, but she eventually moved into a bigger role. Fans were shocked when Vickie became interim Smackdown General Manager and started giving Edge opportunities.

The relationship between the two was revealed with Edge using Vickie’s power to get World Championship title shots. WWE had success with the act, but they remained together for way too long. The end of the run featured a strange love triangle with Big Show that few fans cared about.
