10 Impact Wrestling Tag Teams That Overstayed Their Welcome

The history of Impact Wrestling featured a mixed bag of tag teams from the TNA days to today. There were some legendary tag teams for TNA like Beer Money, the Motor City Machine Guns and Team 3D aka the Dudley Boyz having strong runs. However, not every duo gets to thrive forever without any hiccups along the way.

Two decades of Impact have seen certain teams jumping the shark or just never connecting to have a negative audience response. One of the worst insults for any wrestling act is being told they are wearing out their welcome. TNA unfortunately witnessed this happening with the following teams unable to survive that problem.
10 The Bro Mans
The Bro Mans team remains one of the most polarizing acts in Impact Wrestling history. Robbie E and Jesse Godderz played characters that relied on cheap heat, but they were genuinely entertaining enough to make it work for a while.
DJ Z joining them to make it a trio led to the Bro Mans winning the Impact Tag Team Championship twice. The act eventually got tiring since a gimmick like that had a shelf life. TNA eventually split them up with Jesse betraying Robbie for a lackluster feud.
9 Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez
TNA overestimated the star power of Chavo Guerrero when hiring him and treating it like a big deal. The hope was that fans’ love for the late Eddie Guerrero would make Chavo feel more important when joining the new company.
A tag team with Hernandez wore out its welcome within a few weeks of generic babyface roles. TNA fans didn’t enjoy Chavo and Hernandez winning the Impact Tag Team Championship over more compelling teams of the time like Kurt Angle and AJ Styles or Bad Influence.
8 3 Live Kru
The early years of TNA actually saw the 3 Live Kru as a hot act for a short time. Konnan, Road Dogg and R-Truth all had stints in WWE or WCW to provide stronger name value than most of the roster back then. A trio of rapping babyfaces also worked well in the early 2000s.
Unfortunately, this act grew stale rather quickly and became uncool long before TNA realized it. 3 Live Kru became a hindrance to R-Truth, who achieved more success afterwards without them. Even once popular acts have to evolve, or they will jump the shark with the fan base.
7 The Band
Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff gaining power in TNA led to them hiring Scott Hall and Sean Waltman on their first night. The storyline saw Kevin Nash initially fighting against their old ways before reuniting as The Band with a heel push.
Hall and Waltman weren’t in good condition to perform and instantly made the company regret signing them. TNA even tried adding Eric Young and Bubba the Love Sponge to turn it around with failed results. Fans didn’t even care about a wild dream match between Team 3D and the Outsiders taking place in TNA.
6 Ink Inc.
The creative behind many TNA tag team gimmicks caused fans to sour on the duos before they even gained momentum. Shannon Moore and Jesse Neal were placed into the tag team of Ink Inc. with their entire identities being about their tattoos.

Fans had little reason to care about a duo that basically just talked about their body part as their entire shtick. TNA tried to make Ink Inc. a face tag team to build the division around, but they wore out their welcome to end any chance of success.
5 Eric Young & ODB
TNA ran into the issue of booking a popular tag team to do the same thing too much with Eric Young and ODB. The romantic angle saw them getting married and somehow winning the Knockouts Tag Team Championship, with EY as the only male wrestler to ever hold that belt.
Fans loved both babyface characters, but the comedy started to jump the shark after always getting the better of their heel rivals. TNA eventually realized this and just ended the Knockouts Tag Team Championship for almost a decade before the titles were reintroduced.
4 Rock 'n' Rave Infection
Another bad gimmick from TNA creative featured Jimmy Rave, Lance Hoyt and Christy Hemme being placed in the Rock 'n' Rave Infection. The trio played intentionally bad musicians with a gimmick inspired by the Rock Band and Guitar Hero video game franchises.
All three performers were quite talented and found greater success before or after. TNA decided to have them play generic heels that never got over in this incarnation. The Rock 'n' Rave Infection lasted too long, with Hemme being the only one to survive it in their TNA careers.
3 The Naturals
TNA booked the duo of Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens as The Naturals in the company’s early years. The Naturals were one of a few teams meant to be the stalwarts of the tag division for many years into the future of the company.
Unfortunately, fans never took to them, even with pushes like Shane Douglas or Jimmy Hart managing them. Douglas and Stevens teamed for almost four years and even won the NWA Tag Team Championship three times. The problem was they never had an identity yet felt stale to the audience leading to their release when TNA finally gave up.
2 Mexican America
The success of Hernandez and Homicide in LAX made them an all-time great TNA tag team. However, a horrible reboot saw the heel faction of Mexican America adopting the same personas but with much less of a connection with the audience.
Anarquia was a huge downgrade from Homicide, and it further exposed Hernandez’s weaknesses. A failed Impact Tag Team Championship reign showed the male duo from the group wearing out their welcome. The Knockouts tag team of Rosita and Sarita was the only aspect of the Mexican America act that worked.
1 Voodoo Kin Mafia
TNA hoped they booked a huge hit when they reunited the New Age Outlaws for the first time after Billy Gunn left WWE. The former legendary tag team from D-Generation X used the names of the James Gang and Voodoo Kin Mafia to start this new chapter.
Voodoo Kin Mafia jumped the shark when making their gimmick about trashing Triple H and Shawn Michaels for reuniting DX without them in WWE. The act grew worse when they played babyfaces making sexist and inhumane comments to Christy Hemme every week. TNA somehow turned something fans wanted into one of their biggest failures ever.
