The goal of a faction is to have all its members benefit from being involved in a hopefully strong angle. Groups like D-Generation X, Evolution and the Four Horsemen showed how each wrestler can gain something from being involved without sacrificing anything. Unfortunately, not every stable has the same results for its members.

Most factions have a middle ground like the New World Order or the Nation of Domination with some members thriving more than others. The worst-case scenario features stables with no one gaining anything from their time in the same act. Find out what caused the wrestlers involved to miss the mark, with an idea they expected to help their careers. The following factions featured no one benefiting from the time together.

10 Spirit Squad

Spirit Squad

The concept of the Spirit Squad was to come up with a heel faction to elevate five of the top developmental stars. WWE believed that the gimmick of male cheerleaders would get them over with feuds against the likes of Big Show, Kane, Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

The Spirit Squad did get heat, but none of the members benefited as everyone was paired together. Kenny Doane was the only one receiving a push after the run ended and flopped. The only member to find noteworthy success in WWE was Dolph Ziggler after changing his name and character.

9 The Corre

The Corre

WWE found short-term success with Nexus as Wade Barrett and the other young members received a spotlight. Unfortunately, the angle turned into a huge mess when John Cena scored victories over the entire group.

The Corre was a spin-off faction with Barrett moving to SmackDown and leading Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel and new star Ezekiel Jackson. None of the four members improved their standing with Barrett taking steps back to hurt his career.

8 The Social Outcasts

The Social Outcasts

The Social Outcasts was essentially a group of enhancement talents attempting to turn their careers around. Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, Heath Slater and Adam Rose had fun with the opportunity, but their reputations didn’t change.

The obnoxious heel promos were meant to get them heat, but fans never took them seriously. Each member of the group remained a lower card enhancement talent from the Social Outcasts run to the end of their WWE runs, with Dallas being the last member to be released by the company.

7 Mexican America

Mexican-America

TNA dropped the ball with their factions on a few occasions throughout the years. The failed Mexican American faction was meant to be an updated version of the formerly successful LAX, with Hernandez once again in a leadership role.

New wrestler Anarquia did not fit into the faction since his in-ring work was not exciting. The tag team of Rosita and Sarita saw two talented women joining the group but getting booked poorly. Rosita later found success as Zelina Vega and Sarita was a trainer as Sarah Stock for WWE.

6 Disciples Of Apocalypse

Disciples Of Apocalypse

WWE tried to create new factions to feud with each other in WWE in 1997. The Disciples of Apocalypse allowed Crush to form his own group using his passion for motorcycles as the intent of the group as a biker gang.

Brian Lee received his final chance in WWE with the Harris Brothers joining them to round out the faction. All four wrestlers struggled to stand out with no one benefiting. The faction warfare angle was a huge mess for the mid-card groups trying to break out.

5 3 Man Band

3 Man Band

The idea of a comedic faction can provide more difficulties than the average group. Drew McIntyre, Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal struggled to get much momentum in 3 Man Band, playing the intentionally bad comedic act.

WWE made them look foolish for the entertainment value, but it hurt all three careers. McIntyre and Mahal were released with no promises of a return. Both guys made their way back to WWE and won the WWE Championship for the ultimate redemption stories. Drew becoming one of the faces of the company was extremely unlikely coming off this flop.

4 Misfits In Action

Misfits In Action

WCW badly needed new stars in the final few years when the company was in a rough place. The Misfits In Action featured Hugh Morrus in a leadership role of undercard wrestlers looking to break out as fan favorites.

Lash Leroux, Chavo Guerrero, The Wall and Major Gunns were the other main wrestlers in the faction. Booker T was the best member of the group, but he didn’t move up the card until he separated himself from the failed group.

3 X-Factor

X-Factor

WWE came up with a unique concept of having X-Pac lead his own faction. The trio known as X-Factor featured X-Pac, Justin Credible and Albert working together. Credible made his WWE return for the first time since he found with success in ECW.

Albert was an exciting prospect and held the Intercontinental Championship, but he didn’t gain any momentum in the trio. The infamous “X-Pac heat” started at this point with fans heckling X-Pac as the only memorable moment from the failed faction.

2 Retribution

Retribution

WWE spent a lot of time trying to add relevance to Retribution when the group of masked wrestlers started taking over the show in various ways. Mustafa Ali was eventually revealed as the leader with a few NXT standouts at his side.

The hope was that Ali would rise up the rankings as a top singles star with the others breaking out. Retribution flopped as one of the worst angles in recent memory. The booking was horrendous from start to finish with everyone having to rebuild right now.

1 League Of Nations

League Of Nations

The League of Nations was an interesting concept with four wrestlers from various countries uniting to form a heel group. Sheamus was the leader coming off his WWE Championship win over Roman Reigns with Alberto Del Rio, Rusev and Wade Barrett at his side.

The goal of having Sheamus thrive in the top heel role failed, with fans not taking him seriously. WWE took the belt off Sheamus after a few weeks and the League of Nations failed. All four wrestlers had prior success in singles roles, but their careers each suffered from the faction.
